No more service dogs for veterans

There's not a lot of information in the link, obviously because there's just not a lot of information right now.

I hope they get it sorted. I just received my service dog (who is still in training), Catti-Brie. I have been trying to get a service dog for a couple of years, and was finally paired with a non profit organization about an hour from my house who helps veterans get service dogs.

The way it works, is that they do not train the dogs for you. They find you a dog (who undergoes extensive testing beforehand to determine if it has the personality and intelligence to be a service dog) and then the dog goes to live with you before training even begins. Then you and the dog go to weekly meetings where they train you to train the dog, and check on the dog's progress in training.

If things keep progressing for my dog the way they are, she will get her "service dog in training" best about the first of the year, and she'll be able to accompany me everywhere I go.

Having been one of the lucky ones to get a service dog, I hope that the program that was shut down is reinstated.

I am surprised. The former Fort Belvior Garrison Commander, Colonel Greg Gadson, a double amputee, had his own service dog. He loved the program.
