    The subject of the flood of Noah was brought up in a Bible class last Sunday, and those same statements I have heard before were said, of which I checked Genesis 6-9 and verified are not actually stated in scripture:

    It had never rained before the great flood.
    Noah warned everyone around him that the flood was coming.
    Man had never eaten meat until after the flood.
    Noah was a drunk [not meaning he was drunk at least once after the flood, but that all along he drank heavily].

    If you think you can prove any of these statements, then go for it. But they definitely appear to be inferences based on the individual's point of view.

    This thread is not about the more common debates about the Noahic flood-- whether the entire earth was completely covered with water, or whether it was only the 'world' known to Noah and his region; whether he had to actually bring 2 of every species on the ark with him; whether the whole story is just a forth-looking parable suggesting salvation and the end of the world; and the scientific absurdity of the whole story. These are not considered off-topic, but the focus is those statements made and herein referenced.

    It never rained - Scripture states in Garden the water came up like a mist to water the ground. Nothing from there to the flood states this fact was changed. But we do see that from the flood, rain from that point on.

    No where do we have any scripture that states Noah was an alcoholic. but that He did get drunk.

    Oops - Gotta leave for work I will answer the others a little later :praying:

    2 Peter 2 : 5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

    Speaking of the rain, until the flood the world had been watered with a mist up from the ground.

    Many people question or disbelieve the biblical accounts but their disbelief never renders Gods word untrue! All scripture is true and valid!

    I've never heard the one about Noah being a drunk or the one about eating meat.

    The others were addressed.

    Gen 2:5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. 6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

    Also, we read in Hebrews 11:7 "By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith."

    What was it that had not been seen? I suggest it was rain and a world wide flood.

    2Pe 2:5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

    In Genesis 1:29-30, 2:15-16, 3:18-21 it talks about fruit/veg/herbs being for meat. The language seems to imply the fruit etc was instead of meat.

    In Genesis 9:3 in states that they could eat meat.

    It seems only after the literal, earth-covering flood that we find a distinct command to eat meat. Before the flood fruit and veg are the definite commands regarding food.

    Never heard that before. It certainly does not fit in with the godly descriptions he receives before the flood occured. He certainly got drunk once, but it was not habitual, it appears, before the flood occured.

    Your questions appeared to be asked in quite a frustrated tone. Maybe I am reading them wrong. But you just seemed to have the tone of, "These are lies and not based in Scripture."

    When, in actual fact, the answers are quite clear, you just needed to look before and after chapters 6 and 9 of the Bible.

    If I read your post wrong, then forgive me. But don't write off what someone has taught just because you can't get an answer easily.

    But the mist was in the Garden of Eden. Was it also outside of the Garden?

    Claiming it never rained until Noah's flood seems to be taking a position where scripture is silent.

    Yes, I'm with Mnw.. He gave some good points. Also, if it had rained before, they would have already seen a rainbow before the flood.

    One that I have always heard that has no biblical basis that I can find is that Noah's three sons helped him build the ark. If it is anywhere in the Bible, I would love to see it.

    The context does not make clear what the "things not seen as yet" actually are. In my opinion, the context allows for only the worldwide flood to be one of those things, not an absence of rainfall. Anything more than the flood is simply speculation.

    Baptist Believer, I wouldn't argue with that, the flood itself seems to be the most likely thing not seen. But I do believe rain could also be a candidate due to the other passages mentioned.

    But like I said, it is not one I will fight for. :)

    Not necessarily. I grew up in an environment where it rained at least 100 days a year, sometimes much more. Rainbows were fairly unusual events.

    There may have been some other reason involving the atmosphere that would have not allowed rainbows at that time.

    I've always assumed Noah's family would work together on projects, like any other family, but that, of course, is merely an assumption.

    I'd hazard a guess that after all those hundreds of years since the creation, with people living to be hundreds of years old, someone would have seen a rainbow.
