Noah's Ark Found?

    Christian Archaeology Team Believes It's Found Biblical Remains

    (June 29) - Texas archaeologists believe they may have located the remains of Noah's Ark in Iran's Elburz mountain range. "I can't imagine what it could be if it is not the Ark," said Arch Bonnema of the Bible Archaeology Search and Exploration (B.A.S.E) Institute, a Christian archeology organization dedicated to looking for biblical artifacts.
    Bonnema and the other B.A.S.E. Institute members hiked for seven hours in the mountains northwest of Tehran, climbing 13,000 feet before making the apparent discovery.
    "We got up to this object, nestled in the side of a hill," said Robert Cornuke, a member of the B.A.S.E. Institute. "We found something that has my heart skipping a beat."
    At first, they didn't dare to hope it was the biblical boat.
    "It wasn't impressive at first," Cornuke said. "Certainly didn't think it to be Noah's Ark. But when we got close, we were amazed. It looked similar to wood."In addition, some B.A.SE. members say, their discovery didn't look very distinctive."It looked like the deck of any boat today," Bonnema said.

    Since the Elburz Mountain Range is nowhere near Ararat, I do not see how this could possibly be the Ark.

    According to the above site, Mr Cornuke does not even list being an archaeologist in his credentials. Nor are credentials shown for the other team members according to the article.

    Noah's Ark? Are they qualified to make such an assumption?

    Not everyone agrees that Genesis 8:4 is describing the final "resting" spot of the ark, but just the place where the ark was on that date, but since the waters had not fully receeded at that time that it didn't actually finish it's journey on Ararat. I can't remember where the verse is because it's been a while since I listened to ther sermon, but if the ark settled permanately on Ararat then it would have made a verse that said they came from the east not mesh, because Ararat is actually to the north not the east.

    So it seems as though this "may" be legit at least from that stand point, because that is East of Israel.

    For the record, I am not saying it is or it isn't Noah's Ark. I just find this stuff interesting, and thought it might lead to some interesting discussion.

    I thought the 'ark' was discovered years ago. If I remember correctly didn't Russia threaten Turkey officials if they did not stop the investigation to find the Ark? Also I thought I saw something on the History channel a few years back on the topic.

    Don't really remember it all, getting old ya know.:smilewinkgrin: According to this article pictures were take at a distance of about 200 yrds in 1986.

    Also, the mountain named "Ararat" has changed position over the years. It's sort of like Ur, which was up in the Caucusus Mountains, but because of the change of position over the years, people now think it's down by the Persian Gulf.

    If I were to send you to Chattanooga, at one point in time, there was only one, and that was in Tennessee. Now, there are several, because when the Indians were driven from their homes, they named the new place they settled the same thing.

    So, neither accepting nor denying that this is Noah's ark, this mountain may have been named Ararat at some point in time, or Ararat may not have been its final resting place.

    Mr Cornuke was interviewed on the Al Mohler show the other day. Here is a link to the interview where he explains more about the find and discusses the controversy behind it.
