John Bolton Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

(CNSNews.com) - John Bolton, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, is one of two Americans who have been nominated for the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize.

Last year, Democrats and a few Republicans refused to confirm Bolton to the U.N. post, forcing President Bush to resort to a recess appointment.

Bolton and Kenneth R. Timmerman were formally nominated by Sweden's former deputy prime minister Per Ahlmark, for playing a major role in exposing Iran's secret plans to develop nuclear weapons.

They documented Iran's secret nuclear buildup and revealed Iran's "repeated lying" and false reports to the International Atomic Energy Agency, a press release said.

While I like John Bolton and what he has done, shouldn't the Nobel Peace Prize be reserved for somebody who has actually achieved peace, somewhere? If there are no candidates who fit that description in any particular year, then just put the award in abeyance until one can be found. The prize is to political, now.

I agree that Bolton should not accept anything from Nobel as they are not worthy of him. Nobel has become a joke. It is more about political grandstanding than it is about peace. Someone, somewhere in the world should replace them.

Remember the Death Row/Gangster Leader in California...Tookie Williams? News reports kept touting how he had been nominated for a Nobel Prize for his children's books. Turns out anyone can nominate just about anybody for a Nobel Prize...doesn't mean they are seriously considered.

Guess it looks nice on a resume...any category you want me to nominate you for Joseph?

</font>[/QUOTE]I don't know about that Joseph. I think a nice fat check comes with that prize. Other than the check, its meaningless nowdays.

I fear that the Nobel peace price has been meaningless throughout most of its' history.
This is not a recent issue.
