That means we are not going to swing the gates wide open on May 1st. It also means that I shouldn’t waste time debating COVIDIOTS on the internet that want to jump into a Herd Immunity approach at the end of this month to save our economy from a socialist takeover as the hyper political conspiracy theorist proclaim. Most people, in the real world understand that opening up the economy must be done responsibly and it won’t happen all at once suddenly on May 1st because that would amount to insanity!

    Carry on…

LOL. Immunity schmunity. If liberty means there's a greater chance that Benjamin might catch his death of a cold, so be it.

Trump is not going to open anything. The Governors are going to decide what's best for the state that they govern. Governor DeWine of Ohio has said May 1 and I imagine that Indiana will do the same.

I actually (for the first time) believe the federal government should first lift restrictions for any state that benefited from federal funds related to the pandemic.

The reason is principle. Take the money, accept the plan (even if it us not worked out).

The Governors are being guided by Trump's leadership. I am confident that our President and his team has a developed a good plan for the entire country to gradually and carefully start opening up that will be followed. "If the governors won't do it, we will do it." ~ Trump

Do you really think that Democrat Governors like the V-P candidate in Michigan are going to pay any more attention to Trump than you yourself do?

Some say high heat and high humidity will stop the spread of the virus so warm weather should help. I think that Indiana could open up at the end of the week but our Governor Eric Holcomb is unlikely to act since the state capital Indianapolis is a hotspot.

You are lucky to live in a state that is re-opening. Do you think that home schooling will increase because of this pandemic?

I'm not only paying attention to Trump but I have confidence in that he will mange this situation as well as can be. BTW, I'm not buying into the conspiracy theories that some governors are suicidal and will jump out on their own, either. No sense in focusing on these divisive hyper political narratives when we have real issues that are more important like working together to defeat this virus under the guidance of the capable hands of our President. I'm really done chasing the rabbits of those who have nothing better to do than contradict the USA plan with theories of rouge governors and herd immunity on the internet. Done!

Have you read the actual federal guidelines?
My senator e-mailed me a copy to read. It seemed both reasonable and rather conservative. Every 2 weeks of no increase in cases (or of a decline in cases) there is another step of lifting restrictions. There are some other criteria related to hospital capacity and guidelines broken down by “Individual”, “Employer” and “Government”. After the third step, only a recommendation for “social distancing” and a recommendation for vulnerable populations to voluntarily self-isolate ... which hardly seems reckless after 6 weeks of declining infections and deaths.

I don't think homeschooling will increase yet. Too close to the end of the year.

You may be right. Because of high taxes many people have to have both adults working so no one is at home anyway.

On another note, I am giving up eating bat soup for good.

Grandma got run over by the reindeer in December but the State of Indiana reclassified her death as the Chinese flu because they can get $39,000 from Medicare for a flu death.

    No.
I think that those that really believe in home schooling already are. I also believe that many parents and many children are not a good fit for home schooling ... they are the ones that cannot wait for school to reopen so they can end the confrontational interaction.

I do not know how things are in other state, but Florida has a strong e-school program that is great for students that can self-motivate and stay on schedule (or for students that have special needs and need a modified schedule). I think forcing all students to “virtual school” for a while might identify students that could benefit from the e-school program.

The Government uses certain leading indicators like Construction and New Permits to forecast the future economic heath. As someone working in commercial A/E and Land Planning, this month’s contracts are next month’s work and the new permits for the month after that and new construction three months after that. So I get a 6 month peak ahead at the rate of growth in the business sector.

I just hope that “most people, in the real world” also realize that the economic damage is also real. While I will be the first to admit that NOBODY knows how bad it is, I can tell you that it is declining much faster than the 2008 crash. I can also tell you that people who were mildly concerned in 2008 are flat out terrified right now. Small businesses are fragile things and employ 70% of the workforce. They cannot survive paying rent and loans while not generating any revenue for weeks or months. The money allocated to help businesses in trouble is already gone. We have weeks left in this month and then many more weeks of a slow start.

It may, in fact, have been necessary. However I think “most people” are going to be surprised by just how high the bill for this really is.

Certainly, a price is/will be paid for economic damage but my first priority is the value of life, or in this case protecting many more lives than the economical damage would incur at this point, which calls on us all working together for the best result. Thankfully, we have the right leader to bring us back to financial stability this time around and he is well aware of weighing these threats and I believe is going about it in the best ways possible.
