I caught a bit of Tony Campolo tonight on Hour of Power. One thing of interest he said caught my interest. We are all winners. At one time we were just a sperm - among 5 million - with only one egg. Thus we won our very first race - with odds of 5 million to one.

    Thoughts?

    How can we be losers?

We may feel like a loser sometimes. We may even be mad at the world. Sometimes things just happen that aren't in our control and we shouldn't allow it to make us feel like losers.

We may even keep doing the same wrong thing over and over that puts us in a losing situation. But that's our own fault. And we should take responsibility for it and make changes.

And sometimes, others may treat us as if we are losers merely because they don't like us. And we will never know why. But that's not our fault. They are the ones with a problem and we shouldn't allow it to color our self-image.

We should never treat ourselves as pathetic losers nor treat others that way. Especially as Christians. We are sinners, yes. But not losers. God has a plan for our lives as Christians.

God has a work for all of us to do. He prepared it before we were ever born. If we are saved and obeying His voice and doing those works not TO save us but because we are ALREADY saved, then how can we be losers? We should encourage each other, keep each other accountable, and edify each other. How can we ever treat others as if they are losers? I just don't know.

Campolo? There are times that boy leaves me scratchin' my head trying to figure him out. Did he happen to mention that, while we may have won the first race, we ultimately lose without Christ? I'll stick with the Good Book's take on winning and losing...

Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities,
in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake:
for when I am weak, then am I strong.

    2 Corinthians 12:10 KJV

I can be a loser from the world's point of view and still win. I don't need prosperity, good health nor perfect circumstances. In the words of George Beverly Shea, "I'd rather have Jesus than anything...."

I have often thought about the impossible odds of any of us being born. Not just our conception and life ... but all the generations before us that had to be before we were a possibility.

And what if one of those in our generations passed had married another person? Of if one had said, "No, I have a headache."

What an impossibility that any of us was born ... and what a totally undeserved, wonderful blessing.

I've heard him talk about that - jeesh, like over 25 years ago. He did a great job with it and it was kind of funny the way he did it and it certainly made sense. I don't remember where he went with it though but I totally remember his red face, spitting and screaming "YOU WON!!!". LOL

And we were not in the half of all winners whom God spontaneously aborts. That makes 10 million to one. On the other hand, IF there is a purgatory then God let us go on sinning all those extra years. <G>

I've always thought of myself as having started as an egg, not a sperm. Thanks for that disturbing thought. We all started out as a sperm. So I guess male and female are a lot more similar than most people seem to believe!

Yeah, but only one decided my gender.
And that somehow makes me sad. LOL

And it's not a very far trip anyhow. In no way do I feel uplifted by having won a what...4 inch race? Plus it's not really even the race, it's getting in the egg. That means only the most hard-headed among us cracked the shell and got in. Maybe that just means we're all more bone-headed than we should be.

Or maybe I just get way too literal at times. LOL

Okay fine, we all started out winners. Whee. Break out the 8 oz bottles of milk.

(Don't worry, I have no intention of becoming a motivational speaker. EVR)

BTW - what's a looser? Is it the opposite of being uptight? Maybe it's when I move to another hole on my belt as in "Man, that was some chow. I need to make my britches looser."

Perhaps looser is the antithesis of whiner? :tongue3:
