BREAKING NEWS — North Korea defiantly carried out a provocative rocket launch Sunday that the U.S., Japan and other nations suspect was a cover for a test of its long-range missile technology.

Liftoff took place at 11:30 a.m. (0230GMT) Sunday from the coastal Musudan-ri launch pad in northeastern North Korea, the South Korean and U.S. governments said.

The UN is taking up the matter today. I am going to guess North Korea could care less. If we are going to solve the problem, it will have to be individual or bilateral national effort. The UN has never solved nor ever will solve anything.

Good for them! They are a sovereign nation and have as much right to launch spy stuff as we do.

It always amazes me how a nation whose people are starving can afford to entertain instruments of war.

Should have left Macarthur in charge of the forces in Korea and we might have finished the war there in the 50's.

The inability of humans to assess risk and make economic decisions amazes me. People are as stupid on a national level as on a personal level. The North Koreans are no different than (Christian) wives who abide mental and physical abuse because it is "Biblical."

Under General MacArthur, we were gaining ground. Did you know that we spent the bulk of our fighting in North Korea and up that same peninsula where the rocket was released.

In the early days, we didn't even know the Chinese army was involved in the war. We learned that when we took prisoners.

After Truman fired MacArthur, the moral of our troops sunk to its lowest and we faced the worst battles and casualities.

Canadians lost 550 lives in the three years of war, and we ended up with a retreat line at the same place the war started. There wasn't even a truce. It took us three days in the front lines to even know the war as over and we were going home.

I never heard anything about nuking China, but we didn't hear everything. We were too busy trying to stay alive.

All I know is that perhaps had we completed the war, North and South Korea would have been one country under a democratic leadership and the North might have experienced the same prosperity as the South.

The problem was, we would have had to also nuke the Chinese which meant Russia would have joined the fight.

That is my question also Brother... What should we do?

The UN has made resolution after resolution and NK violates everyone of them. So we make a new resolution.

If we are lucky, with China's new role as our chief lender and Russia calling Obama comrade, we can get them to do something about this. Anything we do will be inviting them to the fight but if they were to join... Embargo's won't work since the people are currently starving. Military won't work since NK has only a show army. Diplomatic negotiations won't work since those are honored like UN resolutions. What do we do?

No. We were gaining ground on both the Chinese and the North Koreans when a halt was called to the combat.......we were left in the cold.....you had to be there to experience that! After three days of waiting, we just picked up our guns and strolled south. I believe Russia had already had her say to China and a peace was dictated. China was not prepared for a world war at that time either.

I didn't know that... I guess I need to retract my statements. I didn't know we were gaining ground on the NK and Chinese. I thought it was a stalemate with moving a few degree's over and under the 38th with no victory in site... I apologize for my ignorance.

No need for an apology, mate. There is a lot of ignorance about the Korean War, and that includes some of us who were there. Then there wre the news reports which virtually said whatever they pleased. When read by us, we wondered where they were.

The only thing that the U.N. will do is issue sanctions, which amounts to nothing. Back in 2004 there was a movie that came out called "Team America: World Police" that touched on this issue. The movie was a raunchy comedy, which I wouldn't recommend. In the movie there was a character which is supposed to be similar to the dictator of North Korea. There is a character that is from the U.N. saying, "If you insist on testing your missile, the U.N. will have no choice but to write a letter to you expressing how angry we are."

In reality, that's how the U.N. works.

The only thing that the U.N. will do is issue sanctions, which amounts to nothing..

In my view, they only amount to nothing if Russia and China doesn't support the sanctions. However, the people are starving and they have no economy to speak of. Sanctions are like threatening to turn off a poor mans cash flow.

What money they do have is made in the underworld. Countries like Iran who are willing to pay for trash like the failed missile that was just tested.
