A dominating performance by the Arkansas Razorbacks over THE MIGHTY TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS.

And I would classify the Hogs' performance tonight as only a B+.

No one should now doubt that if the Hogs play their A game that they can beat ANY college team in the nation.

    NEXT!!!!

This win should put the hogs in the top ten in all the polls. I am predicting at best that they wil be ranked 7 or 8.

If Texas and Southern Cal happen to lose tonight the Hogs could be as high as #5 when the new polls come out.

Show one post where I whine about UT. One. I'm a little surprised at you, Joseph. You usually have more class than this.

I did not see the game. I saw a play with my wife. I TIVOed the game and will watch it. Kudos to the Arkansas team and fans. Phil Steele's prediction that Ark would be the most improved team in the West has come true.

Please accept my apology. I went back and saw that you were indeed, quite full of class when discussing the Razorbacks. I guess I got you and Scott J mixed up in my mind. I am truly sorry.

Good call KenH, Arkansas is rated #5 in AP Poll and #6 in all the other unimportant polls.
Congrats to the Razorbacks, they are starting to get the attention and respect they deserve.

There is now a plausible scenario that if(BIG IFS, I know) the Hogs defeat Mississippi State, LSU, and then Florida in the SECCG - and Notre Dame defeats Southern Cal - that the Hogs will play in the BCS championship game versus the Ohio State - Michigan winner.

    (Edit):

I think that Arkansas would leap past Notre Dame if the Hogs defeat LSU and Florida, but I had forgotten that Southern Cal has to play California. So it would be even better if California defeats Southern Cal and then Southern Cal defeats Notre Dame - just to make sure that Notre Dame can't find its way into the BCS championship game ahead of the Hogs.

Remember that there is a lot of talk going around about having a Mich/OSU rematch regardless of the outcome of that game because of the BCS point differential. Don't know if that will hold up or not, but it's not unprecedented. Florida's 1996 National Title was won because they got a rematch with Fla St, their final reg season opponent. Of course, that was when the Big Ten/Pac Ten were still obligated to the Rose Bowl. Oklahoma lost their conference title and got to the title game. Nebraska didn't even play for their conference title and got to a title game. The Hogs may have to hope for a blowout in Columbus, one way or another, in addition to the other scenarios mentioned.

How many more close calls are we going to have before a playoff materializes?

I agree. But if the BCS formula created an Ohio State-Michigan rematch in its premier game I would expect, not the end of the BCS system, but a major rework of it. At the very least there should be a requirement that a team has to win its conference title to be in the BCS championship game.

The human pollsters will probably take care of the problem by voting the Ohio State-Michigan loser far enough down so that another team has a shot at the winner.

The BCS conferences get the bulk of the money from the current system. Unless another system is devised that guarantees them to continue to receive the bulk of the money we will be stuck with the current system.

My own preference would be to take the top 8 conferences and have the conference winners in a playoff system.

I wish we'd do like Terry Bowden suggested. Use the BCS formula to create an 8 team playoff.

Congratulations. I hadn't been saying alot about this recently because we really didn't know what to expect from UT over the past couple of weeks.

Arkansas beat the best team UT could put on the field Saturday. Would it have been different with Ainge? Who knows. But as someone else said, you play with what you've got and plan for the back ups.

When you play Cal, AFA, and even Marshall and Memphis in a typical year in addition to your SEC schedule, you have to plan on injuries.

Arkansas was able to keep UT off balance on offense all night. The defense gave the Vols a shot in the 2nd half but they couldn't get the execution they needed on offense and especially passing. The WR's got manhandled and held... but that's part of the game. If it isn't called, it isn't a penalty. It was fairly ridiculous though to call Morley for interference there at the end of the game considering how the rest of the game had been called. No impact on the outcome though.

 Yeah. Name a single thing they could have improved. UT made adjustments in the 2nd half that kept them from scoring. McFadden played lights out. Their defense played very well. Dick played better than I expected him to... still not that good but certainly effective.

They beat the best team UT could field on Saturday night.

We've heard you whine about McFadden not being up to speed against USC. Turn the tables now and look back from UT's perspective.

    I'll remember you said that.

It is one game. Ainge WAS injured. But his backup is extremely talented and capable though inexperienced. They just didn't get the job done.

OTOH, are you saying injuries to guys who produce 75% of your offense aren't signficant to the outcomes of games?

How long have we heard Arkansas fans whine about #5 not being 100% for the USC game?

We'll never know how either player might have impacted the games... but the next time UT fans will be concerned about it is when they play Arkansas next year.

Both teams are young so it could mean even more then. Easily both teams could be undefeated going into that game.

The better team won. I was basing my arguments on two teams that didn't play Saturday night. If I am not mistaken, I stopped posting about this game after UT's injuries started piling up.

Nonetheless, you can't "what if" injuries. If you aren't good enough to win with your back ups then you aren't good enough. If you can't keep players healthy then you aren't good enough.

Scott's right about the officiating, but it was equally dismal and inconsistent both ways. For instance: the ARK player called for the personal foul running Hardesty out of bounds? Fulmer himself said that was a ridiculous call. Wade (as usual) interfered with receivers and got away with it for UT...when he was actually NEAR Monk :) At any rate, the SEC football officiating is reaching new levels of ineptness. If the zebras cost someone the SEC title game in Atlanta because of all this, there will be pandemonium.

With all this talk about the ARK offense, people are not noticing what Scott pointed out. Ark's defense is awfully good. They were chasing Vols down from behind in the backfield. Their end rush was about as dominate as we've seen, with the lone exception maybe being Florida (and now that the Gators have lost their best DL, that's up for grabs).

About the only thing I could think of ARK needing to improve would be their secondary. Probably a half dozen drops by open UT receivers. But that's the end of the list folks, and I'm straining at that. That would only mean Ark gets an A instead of an A+ :) Ark is for real.
