Unfortunately about 20% of all people see themselves as "controllers" who like to act like "control freaks" and thus want their "choice" to apply rather than our "choice." These are the folks who support the "cancel culture." They have never met a mandate they did not like provided it applied only to others. 
How much do BEV's cost? Not a lot more than other cars. Several can be bought for less than $40,000, and at least a dozen for less than $50,000.
Which is safer, riding in a mass transit enclosure with potential thuggery, or in your own vehicle? How about the air born virus hazard from a packed subway car?
I want to choose for myself what I think and say and drive! I am ok with others driving fossil fuel vehicles, but if I want to drive a BEV that should be ok too.
And do not get me started on school choice!!!
