An excellent op ed piece in the NYT:

Charlie Sykes on Where the Right Went Wrong

From the article:

In this binary tribal world, where everything is at stake, everything is in play, there is no room for quibbles about character, or truth, or principles. If everything — the Supreme Court, the fate of Western civilization, the survival of the planet — depends on tribal victory, then neither individuals nor ideas can be determinative. I watched this play out in real time, as conservatives who fully understood the threat that Mr. Trump posed succumbed to the argument about the Supreme Court. As even Mr. Ryan discovered, neutrality was not acceptable; if you were not for Mr. Trump, then you were for Mrs. Clinton.

I no longer believe that mainstream Conservatism is about ideas and principle. It is about party loyalty.

Tragically, I believe that "white evangelical Christianity" no longer focuses on the gospel but rather on Republican partisanship. Actually, I think that's been the case for a long time.

From the article:

Now that the election is over, don’t expect any profiles in courage from the Republican Party pushing back against those trends; the gravitational pull of our binary politics is too strong.
----

I think there will be Republican lawmakers afraid to criticize Trump. We will get another $1 trillion stimulus bill. The national debt will increase. Government influence on our lives will increase. These bedrock conservative values of small government and living within our means will be abandoned because in binary politics, "anything is better than the alternative."

More "white" bashing I see
Rev - you may have the wrong thread. Or else, you need to enlighten us as to where Charlie Sykes, a white middle-aged male, is "white bashing."
