O Brother Where art thou?

Homer told through Jethro (about four levels of pun working there...). Excellent. Love the music.

 

Music was tops... the story as Homer's Odyssey was funny too. I wish there had been less profane language, but that is really my only drawback to the movie. I thought it was funny and clever.

 

Honestly? I only went to see it because I love folk, bluegrass and old time music.

Turned out that I really enjoyed it on it's own merits, although some of it seemed forced, as though they needed to fill in space between the music.

Any movie that features Dr. Ralph Stanley singing can't be all bad. By the way, Dr. Ralph will also be on the soundtrack of the new movie, "Cold Mountain".

There was a movie that followed "Oh Brother" called "Songcatcher", which features the same type of music, only with women. Kind of an estrogen laden "Oh Brother". The movie features cameo's and songs by Hazel Dickens, Iris Dement and Emmy Rossum.

 

All through the movie, my wife kept looking my way and asking me, "Is that some of your relatives?" (I married a non-southerner)

 

It's a great movie. I, too, wish they had left out the profanity.

The music is great. It got me away from Commercial Country music. I have bought 21 Bluegrass albums in the last two years. I am now a bluegrass man.

 

I loved the movie, bought the soundtrack, but I am a huge bluegrass fan. (Saw Bill Monroe live once)

The profanity was intolerable, but we watched it on video tape and we have a guardian on our tv at home. It takes out almost all profanity and has made many unwatchable movies clean and entertaining.

Does anybody else have one?

 

I thought the movie was strange, but the music was good. the end was interesting.
