Are you expecting anyone to be impressed by such nonsense? The current president has almost always been "the most admired man in America." The exceptions often 'lost' to former presidents, other members of the current cabinet [Nixon was eclipsed twice by Kissinger], or an unpopular 'lame duck' president by the pope, Billy Graham, or a new candidate.

The most admired woman was usually the "First Lady." Hilary has lived off that, gotten a Senate seat from it, and now keeps her name there by that popular cabinet post.

So... what's your deal with the OP?

I believe MP is just showing that the skewed viewpoint expressed here on the BB does not represent the feelings of the nation at large.

I imagine after the elections in Nov. 2012 you will understand when President Obama is sworn in again as president. :tongue3:

According to a Gallup survey. Hmm...

I think if most of us did an unofficial survey the results would show that Obama would not far very well.

Hmm.....so between Decemeber 15-18, according to the poll 1,019 people were surveyed. 17% of those 1,019 people said they admired President Obama.

That would be (rounded to the nearest whole) - a grand whopping total of 174 people.

174 people said that they admired President Obama more than any other man in 2011.

I don't see the news here except to say that 83% of those people surveyed chose another man as someone they admired the most. You see we COULD make a case of President Obama being a seriously DISLIKED man based on these survey results.

That's the thing about statistics. If you are a good manipulator of the facts, you can make people believe anything you want them to with numbers.

I don't typically put stock in ANY poll - even if the poll results are skewed to represent what I believe.

Perhaps, just maybe, the vast majority of Americans are not "born again Christians", and this is why the views of the BB don't match the views of the general public?

As for me, my salvation and my trust in God dictates that I am different from the general population.

How can a Christian even compare himself to a morally corrupt nation?

One of you pastors help me here, doesn't the Bible tell us we are "peculiar" and "seperate" from the rest of the world?

If my "feelings" represented the feelings of the nation at large, i would seriously have to reevaluate my relationship with God.

Just to add a bit of balance to the op which is an incomplete story ( an expected event considering the source the Denver Post) here is more to the issue:


It is clear from the list of Most Admired men that presidents usually win the honor. A sitting or newly elected president has won the distinction each of the last 31 years, and 55 times out of the 65 it has been asked. The only non-presidents to finish first were Douglas MacArthur (1946-1947 and 1951), Eisenhower (1950 before being elected and 1967-1968 after leaving office), Henry Kissinger (1973-1975), and Pope John Paul II (1980).

In my mind, 17% of 1,019 people (174 opinions) do not represent the "nation at large." 174 people cannot possibly represent the opinions of 350,000,000+.

By the same token, the BaptistBoard does not represent the nation at large.

With that logic on this poll could you interpret to say that 97% of America seriously dislikes President Bush and that 96% of America seriously dislikes former Governor Palin?

Yes. People make arguments based on faulty logic and poor interpretation of stats all of the time. I know enough about research from graduate school to know that people intentionally mislead others using the crunching of numbers. That was the point I was trying to make.

The interpretation that President Obama is the man most admired by Americans (all 350,000,000 of us) based on the opinion of 17% of 1,019 people is misinterpretation. A purposeful one.

We don't know what most of America thinks from this survey. We only know what 1,019 people think.
