Obama Compares His Bowling Score to Special Olympics on 'Tonight Show'

President Barack Obama might have rolled a gutter ball on NBC's "The Tonight Show."

Toward the end of the interview on Thursday, Obama told host Jay Leno he's been practicing at the White House's bowling alley but wasn't happy with his score of 129.

Leno complimented Obama on the score, but the president quipped, "It was like the Special Olympics or something," which prompted laughter from the audience.

Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton said the president's offhand remark was not meant to disparage the Special Olympics, only to poke some fun at the commander-in-chief's bowling skills.

Now that's CHANGE! Not many presidents would go on national television and make fun of developmentally disable people.

Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton said the president's offhand remark was not meant to disparage the Special Olympics, only to poke some fun at the commander-in-chief's bowling skills.

Maybe it wasn't meant to disparage Special Olympics but his comments disparaged them nonetheless.

Unbelievable, how can anyone so smart say something so dumb?

I know every politician has their gaffes, and certainly W had plenty. Perhaps our expectations were a little higher on this great new communicator.

I don’t believe this will hurt Obama in the long run, but what a stupid thing to say.

Makes one wonder if the smarts of O'bama rex are an invention of the Slobbering Love Affair of the leftist media.

Obama Apologizes to Special Olympics for Bowling Joke

Appearing on "The Tonight Show," the president told host Jay Leno he'd been practicing at the White House's bowling alley but wasn't happy with his score of 129. The he rolled a gutter ball by quipping: "It was like the Special Olympics or something."

The audience laughed, but the White House quickly recognized the blunder.

On his way back to Washington on Air Force One, Obama called the chairman of the Special Olympics, Tim Shriver, to say he was sorry -- even before the taped program aired late Thursday night.

"He expressed his disappointed and he apologized in a way that was very moving. He expressed that he did not intend to humiliate this population," Shriver said Friday on ABC's "Good Morning America." Obama, Shriver said, wants to have some Special Olympic athletes visit the White House to bowl or play basketball.

Still, Shriver said, "I think it's important to see that words hurt and words do matter. And these words that in some respect can be seem as humiliating or a put down to people with special needs do cause pain and they do result in stereotypes."

NO HE IS VERY SMART...

You all are missing it...

He intentionally gaffed in order to give us conservatives something else to harp about besides the failed Stimulus Bill and the paragraph that his administration had placed in the bill that allowed AIG's bonuses....

If we are complaining about his Special Olympics Bowling Ability ... then we are not focusing on the main issue.. His incompetance in the White House.

Actually.. the AIG debacle is a sideshow to the real issue... The Treasury department wants MORE money to give away to losers...

Stay focused.. don't be sucked in to a debate over a gaffe.

I have said stupid things before... just run a search here on BB:laugh:

But I think his was calculated.

One thing I know, Sarah Palin wouldn't have made such a disparaging gaffe.

Ah, well, America, you got what you voted for and what you deserve. I am going to start saying that on every thread about this Obama man.

I said that yesterday when I heard CNN blaming Obama and his administration...

CNN!!! YES... the honeymoon is over.
Why..

Ratings mean more to CNN than protecting it's prodigy.
The public outcry got their attention.

Indications are that he's not nearly as "smart" as everyone proclaims.

Looks like his ride on the affirmative action express is beginning to show.

He is only as smart as Pelosi lets him be.

Special Olympics Bowler Offers Obama Bowling Tips

FOXNews.com
Friday, March 20, 2009

President Obama joked Thursday that his bowling ability was suitable for the Special Olympics, a comment for which he later apologized.
But one Special Olympics bowler has a few tips for the president on how to improve his score.

Tim Maloney, a 38-year-old with Down Syndrome who has been bowling for 30 years, said the president needs to practice more if he wants to bring his recent score of 129 anywhere close to Maloney's average of 165.

No...Sarah Palin may not have made that particular gaffe, but she would have made George Bush look like the greatest speaker on the planet.

I don't get the love affair for Palin. She was a stupid trick that the republican party pulled to try and win over the women voters. It didn't work. She'll crawl back into her hole and hopefully we'll never hear from her again. We need real conservatives to step up, not talkers only like Palin.
