Our church rarely remembers Pastor Appreciation Month, but this year they have given us such a huge blessing. Hubby and I just got back from a pastor and wives retreat that filled our almost empty spiritual tanks and revived our tired spirits. It was the best thing they could have done for us. With all the ups and downs of ministry, sometimes we forget we are not alone. This weekend was a big encouragement for us.

I hope each of the pastors and wives here on the BB get a special blessing somehow this month, and if not this month, then in the near future. Happy Pastor Appreciation Month to all of you!:wavey:

Well, we may have our first new believer at our new church. THAT would be the greatest "appreciation" ever. :)

Appreciation? That's what I have when folks stay awake while I preach.

Maybe it's just because I'm still in my "honeymoon" (I've been at the church a little over a year now), but I feel very appreciated. The first Sunday of October, the church showered me with thank you cards (one of of them even had money in it!). The third Sunday they will present me with a gift tree, which last year held about $200 and another $60 in gift cards, as well as some candy that I like. The fifth Sunday we're going to have an ice cream social (because they found out I LOVE ice cream). And from what it seems, they do these things every year: cards, gift tree, special event that the pastor enjoys.

Additionally, throughout the year there is always a small stack of papers on the table in the foyer that people can pick up which outlines how the church can pray for me and my family throughout the year. I'm constantly told how much of a blessing I am and how much they love me.

I really don't think I deserve all this. I'm just so grateful for a loving church family who accepts me despite my imperfections, and is willing to listen to and follow the whims of some young crazy city boy as I seek to follow the direction of God.

Enjoy it while it lasts! lol. Sooner or later, golden boy tarnishes. Just the hard truth. Been there, done that.

I remember years ago when Southern Baptists started promoting an annual pastor appreciation day. It was (and is) a good thing. A few years back the emphasis was changed to "staff appreciation day." In many SBC churches, the pastor is not singled out. The entire staff is included. Not saying that is bad. The staff certainly should be shown appreciation, but I think the custom of pastor appreciation should be resumed and another day of the year used for staff appreciation. My two-cents worth.

Years in the trenches have made you cynical. :laugh:There are plenty of good churches out there that appreciate their pastors over the long haul. I wish it were more common, but lets not say that it is non-existent.

I started to send my Pastor my electric bill with a note that said I would appreciate if he paid this for me. But, my SS class stopped me and said that was not the true meaning of Pastor appreciation. We did give him a gift card to spend on whatever he wanted! (I still think it was enough to cover the electric bill)

Seriously, I pray and hold up all Pastors for a double dippin of God's blessing this month.:godisgood:
