Yeah, it's always the fault of the big, bad oil companies.

While that might be true of the few mega-oil companies like ExxonMobil, anyone who agrees with that author's statement obviously knows nothing about the oil company I work for where we gathered in the atrium and sang God bless America after the attacks on 9/11/2001 and has not walked in our headquarters building and seen all of the U.S. flags visible above our accounting cubicles that we placed there ourselves. And I don't think that the oil company I work for is alone in its patriotism and love for these United States.

 

I'm serious, the answer to this problem is to GET A HORSE.

If we went back to horses, I'd have a more lucrative market for the oats I grow. Yeah, get a horse!!

 

Agree with the article, I find this quote interesting:

Are you suggesting that we do without oil?

 

I don't understand why you keep posting this old stuff, LE? What point are you trying to make?

 

You mean those evil companies that provide all those nasty petrochemical products to meet all our demands and jobs for so many of us? They should do all that for free shouldn't they? Let's nationalize those greedy monsters of capitalism and have the government - instead of the free market - provide for us. Yes, government management will save us! Let's keep on preventing responsible exploration and drilling in our own lands while we're at it to keep the prices high. Let's make it real hard for alternative energy sources to be practical. Let's tax them at the highest possible rate - an excise tax perhaps - because they and not us will bear that cost. They wouldn't pass that along in the cost of goods and services would they? Let's give them no breaks when times are bad but let's squeeze 'em harder when times are good. Shut down all those stinky dangerous refineries and petrochemical plants that make all that gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, naphtha, gas, plastic, rubber, sulfur, coke, etc. Who needs all that stuff? They should build, operate, and maintain those plants for free! None of the workers, including the executives, should make more than $100,000 per year and no investor should earn more than 5% on their money. Anything over that should be taken by the government and redistributed to part time workers at fast food restaurants. To each according to his needs and from each according to his means. They're all crooks! Punish them all! Make 'em provide to the rest of us. How dare they raise the price of my gasoline to cover their profit margins. They should eat the higher cost of crude oil and give me a rebate on my gasoline costs. I want my gasoline! I'm entitled to my gasoline! It's my Constitutional right to have my gasoline at a price I can afford forever!

 

We net about $0.03/gal. on gasoline. Sometimes I think that people believe that when gasoline goes up $0.10/gal. that our profit goes up that much. It ain't so. The price basically goes up and down based on the price of crude oil on the the Nymex. Plus we sell way more gasoline than we produce at our two refineries we have to buy gasoline from other companies to supply our stations. And the spot price of gasoline is also determined on the Nymex. And that price is driven not only by the price of crude oil but also by the limited refining capacity in these United States.

 

And where do you propose that people ride these Equinish four legged, sweet feed eatin' creatures?? On the interstate???

My dad grew up in the last of the era of genuine horse riding----didn't have a car until 1946---everywhere he went was on a horse----on dirt paths----then the state "thinkers" got together and said----we'll dump gravel on all these dirt paths----and then the gravel started tearin' up the horses' feet---then they got together and said---we know what we'll do---we'll asphalt and concrete all of these gravel roads----and then---even when you had your horse "shod"---the concrete would ruin their feet and legs.

What to do about oil prices??? We could bring Big Oil to their knees tomorrow night---if every body in the USA would "start peddlin'" their bicycles---but Americans are big fat "tub of lards" and are too lazy and would rather pay $3 for a frazzlin' gallon of gas than to walk or peddle!!----I mean, think about it----you ever notice all those folks over in Vietnam???? All of um peddle bikes---or walk!!! Gas may be $10 a gallon there----but nobody's buying it!!!

But Americans are lazy, aren't we???
