Having grown up in the lowlands of South Carolina in the 40s and 50s, sleeping on "pallets" on the porch to survive the night, these temps are nothing new. Air conditioning was never heard of in those days. Use common sense and you will most likely be fine.

While someone else might try to use the heat wave news that way, I really don’t think the author of the article is pushing any agenda other than that, according to weather experts, people need to be particularly cautious. From the article: “The seven-day heat wave, which the NWS said occurs approximately once every 33 years, began in New York on Saturday.”
