Well, sort of ... I like the chances of the Longhorns winning the AP national title. Remind me again how the Gators lost at home to Ole Miss?

 

Someone please remind me of who managed to defeat Utah and Boise State, as well, here.

Somehow, I seem to keep forgetting.

The Fiesta Bowl, maybe. But the Poinsettia Bowl??

I do have very fond memories of Boise St. topping mighty Oklahoma in the 2008 Fiesta Bowl.

And I would like to see Utah duplicate that feat, were they playing anyone other than an SEC opponent, which in this case, happens to be the Alabama Crimson Tide. (Still can't bring myself to root against the SEC, in any Bowl Games, unless either UL or Western KY is playing, which was not close to being the case this year.) UK Wildcats, first; other Kentucky teams second; SEC third. (sometimes) the conferences of UL and WKY fourth, and then, after that, I gotta' root for those three old geezers - namely Joe Pa, Bobby B., and Howard Schnellenberger being as I am getting awfully close to being an old geezer, myself.

Getting a bit more serious, both Utah and Boise State played and defeated 5 Bowl-bound opponents this year, for whatever that is worth, considering that about all one has to do to get a Bowl bid these days is get 6 wins, and go 6-6, or even possibly 6-7, given that there are 34 Bowls. In fact, there was a concern with about two weeks to go in the season that there might not even be 68 officially Bowl eligible, qualifying teams, or enough to go around, and they might even have to take a couple of teams that did not actually meet the guidelines, if I recall correctly.

All that said, I would say that Utah had a somewhat tougher schedule than did Boise State, considering the Utes had wins over Bowl-bound Colorado State, Air Force (8-4), Oregon St. (8-4), TCU (10-2) and BYU (10-2). Not too shabby, considering Utah blew away 8 of their12 opponents, including Colorado State and BYU.

Bama better watch out for Utah. They can play. Bama has weaknesses. Utah can jump on them. If Bama goes a stretch where they just don't play, they'll be in trouble.
