ON ALERT
Deuteronomy 17.18-19
18."When he (king) has taken the throne of his kingdom, he shall have a copy of this Law written for him in the presence of the Levitical priest.
19.It shall remain with him and he shall read it all the days of his life, so that he may learn to fear the Lord his GOD, diligently observing all the words of this Law and these Statues,"
This is fantastic statement of Moses. He made everyone, including king, equal before the Law. This means that entire nation and its king shall be on the constant ALERT not to violate GOD'S Commandments and not to lose His blessing, which is always brings prosperity, safety, peace, and final Salvation.
Matthew 24.44
44."For this reason you be Ready too, the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will."
(Matthew 24.42-44, 25.13) (Mark 13.32-33) (Luke 12.40, 21.36) (Revelation 16.15).
Mark 13.23.32-33.37
23."But be ALERT, I have already told you everything.
32.But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in Heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.
(Matthew 24.36) (Mark 13.32)
33.Take heed, keep on the ALERT, you do not know when the appointed time is.
(Matthew 24.42-44, 25.13) (Mark 13.32-33) (Luke 12.40, 21.36) (Revelation 16.15)
37.And what I say to you I say to all, be on the ALERT!"
(Mark 13.34-37) (Luke 12.36-38)
Luke 21.34-36
34."Be on Guard, that your hearts may not be weighted down with dissipation, and drunkenness, and the worries of life, and that DAY come on you suddenly like a trap.
35.It will come upon all those who dwell on the face of all the Earth.
(Matthew 24.42-44, 25.13) (Mark 13.32-33) (Luke 12.40, 21.36) (Revelation 16.15)
36.But keep on ALERT at all times, praying, in order that you may have strength to escape all these things that are about to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man."
All verses above talking about second and final coming of Christ to judge and to reward people who live on Earth. GOD will come to judge believers and non believers alike, everyone will be judged according to his / her DEEDS and WORKS.
As indicated, the DAY of Christ will come suddenly without any warnings or expectations, and for many people it will be too late to change anything, for believers and non believers us well.
Keeping on ALERT always means to keep and obey all the Commandments and STATUTES of the Lord in order to appear before Him untainted, pure, uncontaminated, and clean.
The Word of GOD, His Statutes, His Laws, His Commandments, and His Ordinances are not only teaching us how to conduct ourselves in our life according to His will and His Laws, but also taught us how to fear the Lord and stay away from all sorts of temptations and desires what are opposite of the teaching and the Law of the Lord our GOD.
Matthew 26.41
41."Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation, the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak."
1Peter 5.8
8."Discipline yourselves, keep ALERT. Like a roaring lion your adversary the Devil prowls around looking for someone to devour."
We already know some examples of how even the most great men can fall into temptation and commit horrific sin. Staying on ALERT also means that we have to remember that the Lord GOD constantly watches us and hears us, and He knows all our thoughts.
And by remembering this that the Lord's eyes constantly seeing us and He knows what we are doing, certainly should put fear in our souls, and this fear of the Lord shall protect us from all kinds of temptations and ungodly desires. The FEAR of the Lord never fails to restrain people from doing evil.
So, what eventually will happen to those who will keep themselves on ALERT, obeying Statutes and Commandments of their GOD?
Luke 12.37
37."Blessed are those slaves whom the master finds ALERT when He comes, truly I tell you, he will fasten his belt and have them sit down to eat, and he will come and serve them."
Revelation 16.15
15."See, I am coming like a thief! Blessed is the one who STAYS AWAKE (Isaiah 13.9-10, 34.4) (Ezekiel 32.7-8) (Joel 2.10-11.31, 3.14-15) (Matthew 24.29-44, 25.13) (Mark 13.24-37) (Luke 12.39-40, 21.34-36) (1Thessalonians 5.2-3.6) (Revelation 3.3, 6.12-14, 16.15), and is clothed not going about naked and exposed to shame."
This last verse particularly interesting. Christ will come like a "thief" means suddenly and unexpectedly, and those who stayed AWAKE, means living according to the Statutes and Ordinances of the Lord and keep obeying GOD'S Commandments, will be BLESSED!
But those who do not live according to the Statutes and Ordinances of the Lord, they are "naked" and exposed to shame. This perhaps means that all their secret and shameful deeds of their life will be exposed to all to see, and there will be no place to hide from such shame.
