LOL thanks. I was wondering cuz I think there's something wrong with it. I think ordination should be done through the church.

Online ordination is good for a laugh, a conversation starter and — if you push it — a good parking space at the hospital.

I know a prairie dog who was ordained online ...

I bet the "selection committee" questions are a lot easier to pass.

    James,

You are quite correct. In Canadian baptist circles, it is the local church which actually ordains their pastor. A council is invited to give their opinion as to fitness and test the candidate. This is true, at least, in the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches in Canada, and in the Regular Baptists.

Otherwise, one is laying empty hands on empty heads and the results are obvious.

    Cheers,

    Jim

While online ordination is outside the norm, I would never want to limit it. If the government decides who is and who is not a legitimate member of the clergy, they are interfering with religious matters in violation of the free exercise clause of the First Amendment.

Jim...I too go to a FEBI church in Canada.

Magnetic Poles, you make sense to me...but we don't have a First Amendment here in Canada. I have a question for you though...wouldn't the "religious right" in the states ALSO be in violation of the First Amendment?

I'm not sure I follow, KJ. Both the religious right and the religious left have free exercise rights. For that matter, so do Wiccans, Buddhists, Muslims, Daoists, and anyone else. The First Amendment guarantees (not grants) the right to free exercise of one's religion (free exercise), and as part of that, forbids the government from establishing religion (establishment clause).

MP...doesn't the religious right want to make everyone subject to Christianity? Don't they want to force non-Christians to live as Christians? Sorry if I'm wrong but it truly appears that way.
