Gwen, how did you apply the paint? Did you use a brush or roller? Did you let the first coat dry thoroughly before applying the 2nd coat? Metal doors come already primed, so I don't think that's the problem. It should have been ready to paint.

 

Hi Gwen. Wow. I'm sorry you're having such problems. As the fixer upper in our family I can certainly relate. I just had to replace the cartridge in my brand new Moen faucet last week. I did it all by myself! :laugh: It was a proud moment.

We use a primer called X-I-M. You'll have to go to your local paint store to get it. I don't think it's sold at Lowe's or Home Depot. Any paint will stick to it.....forever! It's oil based, but you can paint latex on top of it. (I have done just that) Just let it dry overnight first, or longer if it's really humid outside. You can use it on just about any surface; wood, metal, glass. It works great. Much better than Kilz.

PS. You might consider sanding your door instead of scraping, to avoid damaging the surface.

Going back to the door-----you say it came already primed??? A metal door with plastic mold work??

Chances are---the door is primed for latex------its just almost a rare--eye--tee any more to see oil base being used

The problem is with the plastic molding-------make sure you use what is called Latex Enamel-----and don't "whimp out" and buy that cheap junk paint from Wally World---mercy---its like painting with water-------hunker down and buy some expensive junk from Sherwin Williams or De-Vo-Ko---or some other exclusive paint store----those guys are experts and know what's goin' on ---and con---trair--ree to the instructions-----let the paint dry overnight before recoating

Ignoring blackbird won't keep that paint from peelin' on that plastic molding-----here's a perfect opportunity for Blackbird to solve ya'lls problem and ya'll won't do it--------------so you ladies had better let Blackbird start mindin' ya'lls busness before someone comes along and sees ya'll makin' unnessasary mistakes over and over and over again!!!:type: :laugh:
