Think about Florida for what purpose?

The government in Florida is designed for tourists and retired people. Most people in Florida were raised north of Virginia and east of the Quad Cities. Great place if you like the weather. I'll pass.

I lived in the Jacksonville area for around 22 years, so I like it very much, although I liked it better when it was smaller back in the 60s. The last few times I was there the traffic had gotten horrendous. I lived mostly at the beach and that has gotten a little too crowded for my tastes as well. If I were ever to move back, I would probably move down around St. Augustine to escape the big city.

But it was a fantastic place to grow up with lots of things to do all the time. I still have many friends who live in Jacksonville I stay in touch with on Facebook.

There has been a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Jacksonville the past few years. Lots of folks getting set free! God is Awesome.

I've never been there but from the news reports, I'd be afraid to visit. Seems very high crime. Same reason I hate living where I live now! Horrendous. If there's a revival there, send it up our way and share! People here are horrible to each other. It's really scary.

The news reporters are famous for reporting the garbage.

Every city has dangerous and safe areas. Like it or not, the safest neighborhoods are usually "white" and expensive.

Depends on what you want safety from and whether you're white or not.

In the past years, while out with family, I've discovered that if you're in a white neighborhood and you're not white enough, you can get pulled over for driving CLOSE to the center line, asked if you live there, stopped for having a car that fits the description of one they were looking for, stopped for pulling into a place that seems too nice for a non-white to live in.

At least you don't know if the person next to you on the street is arm. When an officer stops you, you HAVE to stop AND you know they are armed AND you know their word is typically law.

So yep. Depends on what you want safety from.

But for the thread? I have no clue of the racial make-up of Jacksonville. All I know is it seems high crime from what the news says. I forgot to ask what color the criminals were. Then again, getting shot or mugged seems like it would be just as traumatic no matter who the attacker was.

Jesus is in us, and He said repeatedly "Do not worry or fear". Listen to His words, not the media! Keep a single eye on Him!

Some people think Jacksonville is like Georgia. What do you all think?

About the crime- it is worse than the national average, but you should be okay if you stay away from "those neighborhoods".

    Seven Thoughts of Jax --
    1. Very southern - but not as much as it used to be
    2. Beaches are nice, but the water is not so much
    3. Doesn't smell as bad as it used to
    4. Some very nice areas like Ponte Vedra, some areas are not
    5. Public schools are not great (on average)
    6. Normally, people are friendly
    7. Not much industry - Navy, Insurance, Healthcare come to mind

Canada is a nice place but if not for the US and GB Canadians would be speaking Russian. Canada does not have enough population to defend that much real estate and coast line.
