How many of you are traveling out of the country this year?

    Where are you going?

    Going in or near Greece?

Technically, I am traveling out of country...on a cruise to Montego Bay, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel.

No plans to travel out of the country this year; however, several years ago I took a Mediterranean cruise through the Greek islands. Absolutely LOVED it!! [IMG]

Yes. We flew to Athens; spent 2 days there. Then got on the ship and went to several islands. Got off at each one and spent the day.

Most of the islands are relatively small. We found our way through the towns and discovered bakeries (Greek pastries are awesome!) and little shops. We usually ate lunch at a restaurant on the island (as opposed to going back to the ship and eating lunch there.)

My favorite islands were Mykonos and Santorini!

Enjoyed Greece some years back. Athens is worth a day by itself. As is Corinth. I'm a history buff and enjoyed the sights up the Aegean coast.

Been out of the country in January (cruise down Mexico way). Heading up to Alaska (cruise via Canada) in September.

    Dr. Bob--
Did you do the Mexican Riviera cruise?
I hope to cruise Alaska someday as well.

"Sightseeing" for 10 days just in Athens? Too long, IMHO. After awhile, all the "ruins" begin to look alike!! (Start to get the "you've seen one rock, you've seen 'em all" mentality!) :D

    Just my opinion, however.

Are you thinking about going to Greece this year and spend 10 days in Athens? Just wondering where this is leading since you are asking one question at a time! [IMG]

    "Where are you going?"
I'm taking the youthgroup of our church to Barcelona for 2 weeks.
I won't have any problems finding interesting things to see for 14 days.
Come to think of it 10 interesting days of sightseeing in athens shouldn't be to difficult.
After all, Athens is more than remnants of Classical Greece.

No, not sight seeing for the sake of sightseeing. We are going to the Olympics and will be in Athens for that long.

    Let's see 10 days.
Minus say, 5 days for the olympics leaves 5 days for sightseeing.
1Visiting the Agora and the Acropolis
2 Shopping and visiting the Plaka
3 Going to church (Greek-Orthodox ofcourse) followed by a visit to the Byzantine museum
    4 An excursion to Corinthe
5 a visit to the Benaki museum
    http://www.benaki.gr/index-en.htm

    Et voila!
5 days of High Greek Culture only 2 days of which are ancient Greece.
Nothing to it if you want to.

And Athens isn't even all that exciting by the standards used to judge old European cities.
    Now Antwerpen, that's a city!

My husband is going to Rome in a couple of days. Its a "field trip" for his doctoral seminar on Early Roman social settings. Wish I could go! They even have a meeting scheduled with the Pope and are getting to do some research in the Vatican Library.
