The Muslim worker needs to quit.

If it were my bookstore I wouldn't sell the Koran. :saint:

I'd have to exclude other books too.

The Scribe - I think you have missed the point (sorry!)

She was not a shop owner, she was a staff member. If you work in a store then you have to agree to serve everyone, regardless of what they are buying. Of course if you actually own the store, and it was a specific shop (like a Christian or Muslim shop) then you could probably choose not to sell certain things.

Like people have said, if it was the other way round it would be a much bigger story. We shouldn't go over the top though but rather accept it as further evidence that Christianity is the true faith (although they were intertwined at one point but the difference is we have Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit).

Another thing which no-one will think of, is what would happen if it was an atheist? That would probably get a less outraged reaction...or would it?

I know she wasn't the owner. I was saying I wouldn't sell the Koran and other books If I were the shops owner.

The media would make a big to do if it were a Christian. They always do.

Atheist and Muslims will have to get over themselves. They could move to Europe where they have just about done away with Christianity.

The Moslim should be told her bigotry is unclean and fired for it. If I owned a book store I'd sell every piece of sacred writ, especially the Bible.

How is this evidence of that? Seems a stretch.

I commend the Muslim Council of Britain for making right call to denounce this action just as I would if a Christian employee did the same regarding the Koran or Islamic literature.

I'm talking about the Atheist and Muslims here.

I wouldn't sell anyone a copy of the Koran and there are other books I wouldn't sell either.

Then you should make sure you don't work for a store that sells those books. Your personal conviction is not your religion and is not protected by the U.S. constitution.

I don't, but if I ever worked at a book store I'd tell them my beliefs before they hired me.

My personal beliefs are my religion they come from the Bible. The U.S. Constitution doesn't factor in, my God is higher than any man-made law.

I believe that book stores should be a marketplace of ideas, where all kinds of books are sold.

So, you support selling pornography or books that blasphemy against God?

If a bookstore is a market place of idea, then they would have to sell any book, magazine, and so on to anyone regardless of their age.

That's not something a Christian should support.

I think it would be a difficult to show that touching or selling the Koran or any literature is prohibited by the Bible, but you can go ahead and try.

The Koran is basically a Bible rewritten by a man to elevate himself to the level of God. That's wrong.

He was neither a prophet nor a god. Just a man.

This is a personal conviction that I can agree with. But it is not a biblical or religious prohibition against touching or selling the Koran.

Are you contending that no OB/Gyn has a right to refuse to perform an abortion for any woman informed she is pregnant and requests it?

Saying you're a Christian then selling someone a book that tells people to kill the infidels, that would be Christians or anyone that doesn't convert to Islam, isn't something God would want a Christian to do.

Pornography to one is art or education to another. Of course, one must, and should, abide by anti-obscenity laws. Blasphemy to one is not to another.

Who said anything about selling inappropriate material to children. We are discussing adults rights.

I think you said the opposite of what you wanted to say with this double negative. But who appointed you the arbiter of what a Christian should do?

A Christian book store is where you would need to work, not in a secular one.

Good catch Alcott. I did think about this scenario as I was posting in this thread because I am a medical student who would refuse to perform an abortion and this article caused me to think about how that scenario is different.

The first thing is that medical law, associations and institutions recognize the abortion issue as one that is controversial enough to allow for differences in personal convictions.

Secondly, abortion is widely acknowledged as a religious issue by major religious groups and not just as the convictions of a few religious individuals.

Thirdly and most importantly, performing an abortion causes the doctor to commit an sinful act specifically stated in the Torah, Bible and Koran if one believes that a fetus is a person, which I do. An abortion causes both the service provider (doctor) and reciever (patient) to sin.

Selling a book may allow others to sin and I would agree that we should do our best to prevent that. But ultimately it is the choice of the buyer to sin, not the seller and selling the book itself is not a sin.
