Outlawing Guns will solve what?

Mass shootings are of course a horrific event no matter the victims. However to ban guns from the innocent is a miscarriage of justice. It is labeling all gun owners as mass murderers which just is not so. The liberal left wants to ban all guns from society yet that would not curtail the problem. Haven’t we learned anything from the past? The 18th Amendment was a complete and utter failure along with the accompanying Volstead Act. Passed in 1919 and vetoed by Woodrow Wilson, then the house and Senate received enough votes to override the veto. Our system was at least working in those days.

It prohibited the manufacture, transport, sale or possession of alcoholic beverages. Anything with more than one-half percent alcohol with Federal agents empowered to investigate and prosecute violators.

What did this lead to? Did people stop being drunkards or stop being able to obtain alcohol? Well let’s see the result of a widespread temperance movement. The increase of the illegal production and sale of liquor (known as “bootlegging”), the proliferation of speakeasies (illegal drinking spots) and the accompanying rise in gang violence and other crimes.

What would come of outlawing guns? Would it stop gun violence? Well outlawing alcoholic beverages in prohibition increased the consumption through bootlegging, illegal drinking clubs and gangs increased, so why would people think that outlawing guns and ammunition would stop the violence? In fact it would increase the sale of these by those who sell guns illegally even today.

There are so many firearms that have been "lost" (The number that have "accidentally" fallen over the side of boats must be astronomical.), inherited from Grandfather, or privately sold/gifted with no paper trail that the government will never be able to account for them all.

One of the things about America that I love (there are many reasons why I stay rather than return to Sweden) is the Freedom granted in the Second Amendment. We have it good here.

Perhaps some of them should be outlawed. For what does the everyday person need an AR-15 ? Part of the ideology(Thanks Squire R) of a lot of the radical white terrorists seems to be their growing anti-government hatred brought on by the talking heads of FOX News and conservative talk radio. The perception that I'm getting more and more from the right is that they want to have whatever type guns they want to have in case they have to rise up against a liberal federal government that just gets to be too much for them.

And every now and then ( More and more frequently now rather than then) one of these persons finally goes off the deep end, and we find out why there really doesn't seem t o be any good reason for why you're living in the suburbs and your neighbor has an arsenal in the basement.

Yeah, maybe Tom Jefferson was right and we do need a revolution every 20 years.
