Over 50 Club

Just you wait, just you wait. I am at that point where the doctor keeps on saying, "Now that you are into your 70's, we need to test for ......."

Praise the Lord for Medicare!

 

Thank God the AARP have not tracked my wife and me down yet. We are both in our fifties and do not receive their junk mail.:applause:

I thought the over 50 club was only for old geezers - 'till I joined the club!

 

I get junk mail that is of no use or interest to me, and it all goes straight into the trash. I joined AARP once for a year when I turned 50 and never benefited from it that I could see, and now they keep trying to get me back even though I let that membership expire and haven't been with them since I was 51. I'm now 64, and they won't leave me alone.

I get a magazine called Agriculture. I live in a trailer and don't own any property--so why is that being sent to me? I'm tempted to buy a large envelope and mail one of them back to them with a note telling them to quit wasting their time and the reason why. At least they haven't tried to charge me for it.

One time I got a women's magazine that I didn't send for (I think it was Red Book), and I wasn't married. I wrote and told them not to send any more and that I wasn't going to pay for it. They sent the next month's issue and a bill, and I did the same thing. They sent me a bill for the prescription each time, and I wrote back each time and told them that I was not paying for something I didn't order. They finally got the message, and I never heard from them again.

I believe that many places try to scam you. I do order things and forget about it until it arrives, but I always do remember eventually. I don't order women's magazines. They send it along with a bill hoping you will think you ordered it and forgot, or that someone in your family did.

I get all kinds of advertisements to buy this and buy that, get this insurance and get that insurance. Occasionally, I get a check from the guy in Michigan who took over my RV there and sends me money as he can afford it. That's the only mail I look forward to unless I order something online, which I occasionally do. I wonder how much money is wasted on junk mail that just gets thrown in the trash.

The AARP was started by a group of retired school teachers with the best on intentions but has sold out to BOTH major parties. They are not even honest because when you buy an honest person he stays bought.

It boggled my mind that the AARP endorsed the revision to Medicare until the TV ads for AARP supplemental insurance began. They sold out to the insurance industry.

 

No, they didn't sell out to the insurance industry. They sold out for more money. AARP is a large insurance wholesaler. For Medicare supplement plans, they endorse (meaning they get paid by) the United Healthcare Medicare Supplement Plan. So, no surprise, they are not fans of the Medicare Advantage plans that so many seniors utilize. As a result of the healthcare reform, the amounts provided by the federal government to the Medicare Advantage programs will freeze and eventually decrease, thus causing more seniors to choose what.... Medicare supplement plans instead. And who is one of the largest Medicare supplement plans? You got it -- United Healthcare.
