Paid Advertising & Churches

    1. An IFB church in the Twin Cities area upgraded their Christian School's athletic field last year (a really nice job, BTW). On the new scoreboard that was installed, there is a prominent, official "Pepsi" logo at the top- for which the local PepsiCo distributor paid the church a good fee.

    2. Some churches have begun to accept paid advertising (e.g. for Dentists, Realtors, Car Dealers, etc.) in some of their publications- for example their monthly newsletters. Here's one example:

    Questions:

    What are some of the Pros or Cons of churches accepting money for (acceptable) product logos or for paid advertising?

    What if, in the first example, PepsiCo was to announce that they are merging with Anheuser-Busch? Would the church in question still be comfortable having the "Pepsi" logo on their scoreboard?

    Finally, how would you or your church feel about doing these sorts of things?

    I think it should only be done if it is a chritian owned business.
    Our local christian radio only takes advertising for christian owned businesses,and the state SBC news paper is the same.
    Our church isn't big enough to need advertising the pay for stuff. I mean we don't have a sports field, or anything we would need lots of extra money for.

    I think it raises questions as to whether or not God is able to supply our needs through the local church membership via tithes and offerings alone.

    But that is just me. Call me a purist. :D

    Considering it was for the school and not the church itself, I think it was OK.

    Our church asked a restaurant a block away if we could use their small parking lot on Sunday mornings. We are a city church, and the only other parking is street parking. The restaurant said they would IF we put a line in the bulletin saying that they graciously provided parking. No money involved, just a "credit." Our Board of Trustees hasn't decided yet. What do you think of that?

I don't believe that the store requested such a byline; I think the church just put it in the bulletins as sincere thanks.

    Paid advertising is part of everyday life now. Nothing wrong with churches associating with it long as it's not for something that's definitely UN-Christian such as beer or porn.
