    LOL, James!

I had a reply to this all typed up and ready to post and the other thread closed.

Spray paint isn't very durable nor would it cover or protect certain sensitive body regions that need both. Paint would only change skin color. But add a few millimeters to that paint via a dive skin: http://http://www.diversdiscount.co...oduct.asp?category=44&categoryname=Dive+Skins

and you have something perfectly modest (at least for it's intended use in it's intended place. you'd look quite silly walking down the street outside your house wearing it.)

Oh, explain what you meant by Hebrews 11?

My reply to you would be this. No, a can of spray paint would not be sufficient for clothing because it is not clothing. You would still be naked.

You also said this just before Blackbird closed the thread.

"Just because Tamar was....excused for her actions doesn't make it right. And I didn't see her in Hebrews 11 for it."

My reply to that statement would be this:

No. Tamar is not in Hebrews 11. But the real whore, Rahab, has her true and faithful heart mentioned in verse 31 of that same great chapter.

I've got to admit James, that has to be the most ingenious title for a modesty thread I have ever seen here!!! I love it!

    No paint won't do it...
And there were a lot of other great faith heros that wasn't in Heb. 11.

James? You sure you want to go here with us? :D

I'm out anyway. Arthuritis is demanding my attention every time I hit a key stroke. Gotta give my hands a rest.

So do we take a pragmatic veiw of modesty? God tells us there is a thing called nakedness, and it should be covered. What is it and what does it mean to cover it? If I coat it in latex, is that really covered in the sense that God would have it covered?

As for Hebrews 11, I was merely pointing out that God did not include Tamar's deception in that list of great acts of faith. Just because God sometimes winks at sin, or uses it to accomplish a purpose, doesn't mean that it is ok.

Actually, if you think about it

Spray painting ones entire body is dangerous

You skin(in its own way) "breathes" --- it absorbs essential elements from the air surrounding it plus it is used to "expel" other elements inside the body that needs to come out ---- also, one of the most important ---- your skin is used to perspire(sweat, for all you rednecks) to help regulate body temperature

You paint your skin ---- it can't do any of the above --- and you would be in a heap of trouble!!!

When Adam and Eve ate the fruit they knew they were naked...

"And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons." - Genesis 3:7

It was Adam and Eve that sewed fig leaves together making aprons. An apron covers only the forepart of the body...

Apron = 1. A cloth or piece of leather worn on the forepart of the body, to keep the clothes clean, or defend them from injury. (Webster's 1828)

God must not have found fig leave aprons to be acceptable and it was God that clothed them suggesting that they were not clothed prior and that God does, in fact, have acceptable standards for clothing.

"Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them." - Genesis 3:21

To be cloathed with coats of skins is to have the upper part of the body clothed. This suggests to me that a bare chested man is not clothed according to God's standards.

Coat = 1. An outer garment fitting the upper part of the body; especially, such a garment worn by men. (Webster's 1828)

Clothed = 1. Covered with garments; dressed; invested; furnished with clothing. (Webster's 1828)

The purpose of God doing these things is that it is a shame to have your nakedness uncovered or someone to see another naked (save for the marriage bed)...

"And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. " - Genesis 9:22

"Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man." - Isaiah 47:3

"Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame." - Revelation 16:15

As to paint, I believe it would be unacceptable for it is not clothing and the person would remain naked.

What if? So far Rufus is the only person who has given any kind of biblical reason why wearing spray on pants would be wrong. I think it is safe to say that spray paint is not clothes. So the next question would be spandex... Can a person swathed in spandex be considered to be clothed in the manner God would find acceptable?

Just had to look at this

Just had to look at this. You have really opened a can of worms here.

This is a great idea. Pants in a can would necessitate Dresses in a can. Blue for the boys, and Pink for the girls, then we would be able to identify each sex, which is becoming more difficult by the day.

It looks as if our privates are discovered when we are not covered, but I'm not so sure. Scripture indicates God's children wore nothing under the long clothing if we limit nakedness to our privates. "Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon", Exodus 20:26.

Looks simple enough but then we find perhaps nakedness is more than we realize. Perhaps they did wear underwear, and it is not just our privates. Psalms 147:10, "He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man."

This then sends us into another direction also. In the beginning God looked upon Adam and his woman in their nakedness, and saw nothing wrong, and Adam and his woman didn't either. They were not yet married and it didn't matter to them or God. It is not until they both ate the forbidden fruit that they realized they were naked. They both at that time became aware they were not "covered". There are a number of reasons God covered the two, and I believe one is God does not wish to look upon "sinful flesh", even his legs.

Paint is only temporary, as are our clothes, and these "sinful bodies, we live in today. The worm never dies (Mark 9:44 and others), but we in Christ will not always be worm's to be covered. I don't have any idea of what Adam and his woman was before, but they became sinful worms.

    Bro James,
Praise the Lord for this thread! Excellent starting point, got the ewwy-gewwies on the run. When are you gonna draw the line? I can't wait. Reminds me of what ol' Brother Rollof used to do with the libertines and the lawless, the Lord gave him wisdom and he could use the experience of the barnyard and SHUT THIER MOUTHS.

    Thanks Bartimaeus

If you are naked and spray-paint yourself red. You are naked and red.

Your body isn't covered, it's just a different color. :tongue3:

Spandex? Oh boy! A whole new thread on modesty... :BangHead:

    What's next? Speedo's? :tonofbricks:

Well, I have just one thing to say about that....TALK TO THE HAND!
