ANYONE WHO IS A PARTIAL PRETERIST - HELP![confused]

Have been thoroughly teaching the views of Revelation and most students are fitting into one view or a blend of views.

Problem. Everything I have taught about preterism (Revelation written in 67 and all events in it were fulfilled during the first century and we are in the kingdom now) seemed extreme. Some say, isn't there a "partial preterism" - some fulfilled then, some yet to come.

Where do you draw the lines? Who says what HAS BEEN and what IS NOW and what IS STILL TO BE fulfilled?

Appreciate it. Have a class on Tuesday, so hope some of you have Equality Day off tomorrow and can help. :D

In my opinion, there can be no partial preterism.

Once one takes even one event from the view and transposes the event to the future, then it ceases to be "preterist".

Rev 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

    Bob,

A lot of the scholarship that I read when I was preparing to teach a study on Revelation probably falls into the partial preterist category. If I rembmeber correctly, the general line between for history/allegory and prophecy (in much of what I read) is the start of Chapter 19.

The short version would be to say that the bulk of Revelation is a translation of the first century political events into a religious allegory that shows the spiritual reality behind those events. The last few chapters offer a vision of final hope, transformation, and unity with God (for the elect/saved/faithful). That vision has yet to be fulfilled and remains our hope.

    Bob:

Technically, anyone who holds to any prophecy being fulfilled is a partial preterist. I believe most of Matt 24 was fulfilled in the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70. However, the future return of the glory of Christ has not yet happened.

The absolute best place on the net to learn about partial (orthodox) and hyper (heterodox) preterism is
    The Preterist Archive

See particularly A Case For Preterism and Apocalypse Then

NOTE: I in no way endorse all at this site, especially the heresy of full-preterism which denies the visible, physical second coming of our Lord.

    Dr. Bob,

Check out the new Commentary by Beale in the New International Greet Testament Commentary who attempts to explain an eclectic approach (partial preterism)

I don't really know that much about either position, but from the little I've heard so far, don't think I care to.

What about all the prophecy and unconditional covenants yet to be fulfilled? Anyway, I found a site that has several pro and con debates. You might find it of interest. It seems to cover a wide range of viewpoints.
