CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- A Charlotte pastor and his wife are now mourning the loss of their newborn son, who was delivered via emergency C-section following a tragic car crash that already took the life of the family's 2-year-old.

Gentry and Hadley Eddings and their son Dobbs were in a caravan headed back to Charlotte Saturday when the vehicle Hadley and Dobbs were riding in was struck by a truck in Wilmington. Gentry was in another car when the crash occurred.

Hadley, who was eight months pregnant at the time of the crash, was rushed to a hospital in Wilmington for an emergency C-Section.

Baby Reed died on Monday, just two days after the crash, according to Forest Hill Church, where Gentry is a pastor.

What a tragedy. My heart goes out to this family and church family.

What are we to think when this sort of thing happens? Is it wrong to wonder about the state of this pastor's relationship with God? Is God chastening him?

A friend of mine's sister attends their church. Just devastating Lifting them in prayer.

I don't know if God is chastening him, but I know that God will be glorified in the midst of this tragedy.

Sin in this world is like a spider web. My sin criss crosses with your sin and the sin of someone in China and the sin of someone in England and ultimately with the sin of everyone else in the world to form a web of sin.

Often times we get caught in the web of someone else's sin that had nothing to do with us. It's just all around us and cannot be escaped.

Praise Jesus that a better day is coming.

Yes it's wrong to wonder about the state of pastors relationship with God. Do you think Christ was out of Gods fellowship because he was crucified ? We as Christians may be called to walk the same path to get a deeper meaning of giving up our son as God gave his up. To be chastised is to be a son.

Yes, you are wrong to wonder about the state of the pastor's relationship with God. You sound like the Apostles who wondered if the man or his parents had sinned to make the man blind. You sound even more like the "friends" of Job.

I agree. I saw article this morning and was stunned. How horrible. How tragic.

On this side of eternity, we will never know why these two children were killed. Sin? evil? Wrong place, wrong time? Just one of those things? Permissive will of God? Punitive will of God?

Since we won't know, speculation about the spiritual status of the father/husband is pointless and in my opinion not a nice thing.

13 Consider the work of God: for who can make that straight, which he hath made crooked?

14 In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider: God also hath set the one over against the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him.

We are to consider all things through the filter of God's word knowing He has ordained whatsoever comes to pass.

OK, I'm not saying I'm speculating on the pastor's spiritual condition. I am saying that as I try to make sense out of this tragedy, it was one of the possibilities that flashed through my mind. I'd like to know why every other possibility is fair game but this one is unthinkable.

It's not up to you to make sense out of this tragedy. God has reasons he certainly is not obligated to tell us. Job never found out about why his kids were taken.

We humans want to assign blame and figure out why. That's something God has reserved for Himself.

It isn't that it's unthinkable.

It's that casting a doubt on the spiritual nature of the man and that's not our place when we don't know. Perhaps if the question were posed generically - as in, does God do things like this because of people's personal sin - would be more in line for a good discussion.

People that wonder about a Christians standing with God just because a tragedy happens in their life are just proving by their thoughts they believe in a works base salvation.

They are? Don't understand how you make that leap of logic.

Furthermore, remove the phrase "just because a tragedy happens in their life" from your statement and tell me if your analysis is still valid. Like this:

"People that wonder about a Christians standing with God are just proving by their thoughts they believe in a works base salvation."

••Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:[Ro. 5:12]

••For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.[1 Cor. 15:22]

••For the wages of sin is death[Ro. 6:23a]

These two, the toddler and unborn baby died due to sin. They did what we have to do.
