What did your church "do" to remember Pastoral Appreciation month?

Am just blown away by my church. I stepped in to a pastorless church as "interim" on April 21st so today marked the start of my 7th month.

They focused the service on how I had been called of God to come and help them until they can find a new senior pastor. Got a lovely silver serving tray (engraved with the church name and "in appreciation") and a basket with more than 30 cards and notes. Some gifts included, plus flowers for the bride and I.

And called up to be prayed for by the Elders, then with them, declare the Nicene Creed. Then the wife (and elder's wives) to affirm their support of us in the work of the ministry. Really moving.

I am not boasting. My message today was on humility (Phil 2:5-8 in my 32 message series) so don't have to shampoo with slim fast. But truly truly humbled by these folks.

Have NEVER experienced this in a church. Just rejoicing with you.

"Pastoral appreciation month"......is this common in the states and besides someone else preaching for the month, what is normally done? Maybe someone should adopt it in Scotland????????

I think it a policy long overdue. Most churches give some sort of gift at Christmas, but little else in vocal appreciation.

Along with homemade notes and cards, I got at least 20 different professional cards. This means that the major christian/non-christian publishing houses are recognizing this as a greeting card bonanza.

Know that in the USA the Focus on the Family ministries have promoted this "appreciation" month. Even have "kits" on how to do it!

I have not seen a specific "Pastor Appreciation Month" declared in Canada.........Is there a church available for me in the USA? I like gifts,,,,especially when I don't have to buy them.

    Cheers,

    Jim
