Pastors, do we compete with hollywood?

We've got worse problems than that. We're competing against princes and principalities, Satan and his demons, sin and sinfulness.

We can't "lead" anyone to believe anything salvific. Salvation is in the hands of God. We stick with God's plan. We proclaim Jesus Christ, and let Holy Spirit bring conviction, repentance, faith obedience and perseverence.

Maybe we could introduce a commercial every ten minutes and compete with the telly...........

I never tried to compete with anything in my life of preaching. It was enough for me to present the word of God to the best of my abilities and with the Lord's blessing.

a couple of thoughts:

Competitions we will lose most of the time:
-Attempts to be funnier, cooler, more extravagant than hollywood. I should do my best in our programming, but I accept I/our limitations.

Competitions we should be winning:
-We provide real love, radical hope, and relevant faith. HW has no answer for it.
-We provide connection with others that goes so far beyond the levels the hollywood bunch look at.

 

People want to see real Christians. Hollywood cannot even come close to competing with that. Too often they see idiots on TV and those who follow them. Then they wonder why people are so stupid.

 

We do not compete with Hollywood. There is no competition for the irresistible grace of God. Hollywood is no match for God. We simply obey God, preach his Word, and witness to the lost. It is God himself who will lead the people to believe in the true God. Outside of God's irresistible grace, there is no hope for the totally depraved lost world.

The majic of the theatre runs out as soon as the credits roll.

 

That very line of thought is what ushered in the 'seeker-sensitive, purpose-driven, champion in you, emergent church'!

We are called to be faithful to God and His word, exactly as Joseph and canadyjd said above! Who can compete with God? Salvation is of the Lord? Follow the word and be faithful to it without any compromise or accomodation to the desires of this world! Trying to apply a pretty band-aid over a gaping wound of sin offers no help! One must see themself as a sinner, lost, doomed to hell before they can know their dire need of a Savior!
The only prayer God hears from a sinner is, 'God have mercy'!
Gathering in more and more numbers into a building does not add to the true church of God! God is building His church by regenerating hearts! People need to hear the pure, clear doctrines of scripture and to come to a knowledge of God's word! How can they hear without a sound preacher?

 

I'm gonna "ditto" Jim here!! No way that Hollywood can keep up with the pure gospel of Jesus Christ---He's been here longer than hollywood---and He'll be here long after it becomes a ghost town with tumbleweeds and everything!!!!!!

 

I live in the wonderful freedom that I don't compete with anyone...

I fully trust that the God will do as He promised and draw the nations to Himself by the ministry of the Word (proclimation and example).

It's a beautiful thing!

 

Can we compete with Hollywood?

No.

But, with a good pyrotechnics display, we can compete with the circus.

I've seen a few of those churches that compete with circuses in the past when I had cable TV...

 

I don't really think we should bother with this whole notion of competition...rather why not use the media for the purpose of Gospel

Paul had no problem using the popular media of the day to help break down barriers to hearing the Gospel.

 

Pastor, I am not a pastor.

I have to say this. I don't want a preacher who competes with hollywood. I want a preacher who teaches Jesus and the Bible. If he happens to be on tv than fine as long as he preaches Jesus and the Bible. I don't want to hear, buy this and support my ministry for television, or the likes. If I am sick, than I want to hear the Word of God, if I am poor than I want to have the Gospel preached to me because I need the Word. If I am hungry than feed me with the Word, all else will fall into place. The Word is so important to people today because this world is falling like sodom and gomeroa. God help us all if we have no one to guide us. It is preachers who preach the word that matter to me, not line my pockets with false truths. I love listening to a preacher, teaching the Word from the Word. Is that clear to you?:type:
