Pastors with Earrings????

Jim1999

I can't think of anything in scripture against having earrings, but it wouldn't be my cup of tea. I guess it's no difference that rings in noses, eyes, lips and other places!
Whatever happened to the day when we used to debate whether we wore white or yellow gold wedding bands?

Cheers,

Jim

Now THAT is worthy of a BOOOOOO. ;)

I fought the earring battle with my teen daughter. Looked up every verse (including cutting/maiming self as "worship") and couldn't find biblical reason.

I think it effeminate and would not sit under a guy with a necklace or earrings. But I was asked to take off my wedding and my class ring when preaching in a big Nazarene camp meeting in Arizona. (I'm fat and couldn't get them off, so put a bandaid over them and no one knew!!)

this is along the same lines of ME having multiple earrings in each ear. How many is too many? I have been told by good intentioned guys and gals that one in each ear is plenty . . .

"So Aaron said, “Take the gold rings from the ears of your wives and sons and daughters, and bring them to me.”
Exodus 32:2 NLT

As long as we’re at it…

Should a pastor wear paisley?

Should a pastor wear polyester?

Should a pastor wear a bow tie?

Should a pastor die his hair?

I cannot wear a hoop earring in my job as a Paramedic since I could have it ripped out by a crazy patient or just get it caught on something. I would not see anything wrong with a Pastor wearing an earring as long as it's in the proper ear, if ya know what I mean ;-) I would never take my wedding band off for anybody unless it was for surgery or a catscan machine. Listen to the message the Pastor preaches not his appearance. Suits and ties don't get anybody to Heaven. It's the word of God that does. I wear my earring in my left ear when I'm not at work and riding my Harley :)

I've haven't worn my wedding ring in years.
I don't think my wife has either.

Both of us work in the medical field and the constant washing of hands causes irritation.

I never really got used to it anyway.

This is just another example of cultural Christianity.
It is a form of legalism where Christianity is not longer about the Gospel and the Praise of God but about how one fits into our concept of what a Christian "lifestyle" should be.

This is one of those weights that does so easily beset us.

Now I certainly prefer a pastor who does not have earrings. I don't have any.
There is man who does come to our church who is a new Christian who was saved in jail who does wear an earring to church.
Do I like it? No. But the last thing I want to do is make an issue out of that when he needs to get solidly grounded in the Bible first and foremost.

Having said all of that, I have my doubts that I would ever be confronted with a pastor in the US that had an earring that did not have plenty of doctrinal problems.
But I would make an issue out of his doctrine, not the metal in his ear.

No desire for an earring. But, if another pastor wants to wear one and can get away with it at his church without stirring up a lynch mob then more power to him. One cannot not develop a sound Biblical argument against a man wearing an earring today.

I don't have a problem with men, including pastors, wearing jewelry - including earrings.

Now, it would probably be a distraction to many, so he should contemplate carefully whether he should or not. Just as he should contemplate carefully over whether or not to wear a Spiderman tie or purple glasses or anything that would take the focus from the message and put it on the man.

I would see only as a distraction in the pulpit and I would not view it as him having any gender-identity confusion nor liberal philosophical issues.

The only time that I would refuse to sit under a pastor is if he were preaching anti-Biblical messages or living a lifestyle that negated the gospel that he preached.

My pastor, as dear as he is to me, has a habit that is faaaarrrr worse than wearing any item of jewelry.

He has sinus problems and blows his nose alot. No big deal - but he always opens up his hankerchief and LOOKS at it before putting it back in his vest pocket. Children snicker and adults grin and he doesn't realize that he's doing it.

We love him all the same and consider him a great man of God.

I have a tattoo on my right arm which goes back to the Korean War. I always had to wear long sleeves to cover it whilst in ministry. I would see an earring on a man much the same. It may be quite innocent, but can affect the viewer. Maybe if that pastor wore a hood over his ears it would be more acceptable.

I have a tat from my time in the Corps. If I could remove it like an earing I would. Lazer removal is about 150 a square inch. Everyone will just have to live with it.

I was the origonal poster....

Now let us add another wrinkle.....

If the pastor does not wear the earring with his suit and tie ,during ministerial duties???? but he just wears it with his bib overhauls during the work-a-day weektime secular job and home time? Does that make a difference???
