Patterson to meet with Trustee Board of SWBTS

All about Grace

Patterson at the largest SBC seminary in the heart of the largest state convention in the midst of perhaps the largest lingering SBC strife....there's a formula for controversy.

Press on Dr. P
Hopefully, Dr. Patterson will "press on" toward excellence and not "press on" to create controversy. If controversy occurs, I pray Dr. P will be wise and restrained in his remarks, and graceful to those who oppose him. I like Dr. P, but I'm not excited about him coming back to Texas because of his political baggage.

Living in Texas, I'm tired of of the fighting between the Baptist General Conv. Of Texas (BGCT) and the SBC. Stupid remarks have been made on both sides in the name of denominational politics. Name-calling and labeling is the game today. Examples: You can be conservative and orthodox in your doctrine, but if you show any sympathy for any BGCT cause, you run the risk of being labeled a "moderate". I know this because I'm a member of a BGCT affiliated church. We're conservative, but we're sometimes labled "moderate" because of our affiliation.

Ditto's to what KPBAP said. They may try to label you - but don't let that tear you down. Press on in seeking truth.

Another story of labeling: a pastor I know (thankfully not the pastor of my church) made the statement that 'All people in the BGCT are democrates.' And knowing this guy I know the underlying thought was 'all people in the BGCT are going to hell.'

All this mess tends to remind me of Lucado's book 'You Are Special' Which is about people labeling each other. Baptist do the same thing to other Baptist

</font>
Couldn't agree with that statement more.
But controversy is a two way street. I would hope that the Standard would be just as wise and restrained and graceful. But then, I also hope to find a million dollars in my mailbox this afternoon. Oh well...

FWIW, my understanding was that he was in for a 5 hour meeting a couple of weekends ago, that the deal is basically done, and that he had requested any "formal" meeting or announcement wait until after the convention.

...and I bet Blaising will be gone from SWBTS soon, since he and PP didn't do well at Criswell.
Remember when PP was supposedly "the chosen one" at Criswell?

Care to relay the source of this information? </font>
Tom,

Let's just say a reliable source. I've sent you private mail.

W.A. only preached Sunday morning back when we were at FBC Dallas. In the evening, Dr. Patterson and Dr. Lowery took turns with series of sermons.

Got so my kids enjoyed the pm services better than the morning!

I am just thrilled to see the possibility of Doc returning home. Praying for God's perfect will . .and know that the SBC in Texas needs help returning to its true core values.

I am hearing on the Southeastern side that it is a done deal from a well-placed source.

Akin and Land are the only names I have heard for a replacement, but that is just a step or two above speculation.

Get ready for the fun to start! Three of the professors in the school of theology helped lead (forced) Patterson out at Criswell College. Watch for the resignations (of died in the wool fundamentalists) to start soon!

Very reliable sources also say that Blaising will be busted down to a VP position (one of several) - no suprise that Patterson would not accept a presidency with no teeth. But Blaising served his purpose and is not really needed outside the classroom any longer.

Tom, this is so exciting. It takes me back to the days when we international relations guys were trying to figure out what was really going on in the Soviet Politburo. We had "Sovietologists" (really!) whose job was to figure this out. When I was a captain and a student at Squadron Officer's School in 1984, we had the leading "Sovietologist" at the State Department come and talk to us. He defined "Sovietologist" as a person with a PhD in Russian History or International Relations who was fluent in Russian and thought that he or she had the gift of prophecy... :D

Do we have any SBC-seminiary-ologists?

That would be interesting. Many of us here at SEBTS don't want Patterson to go anywhere, but if it is for the betterment of another of our seminaries then we can't be too selfish. If he leaves, I will thank the Lord for the year that I was here with him as president and pray that the Lord uses him mightily at SWBTS. If he stays, I will thank the Lord.

I would be interested in Land as president here. Does anyone know his credentials?
