2 Peter 3:
15 Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. 16 He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.
When I first started out I feared reading the Pauline Epistles, because I use to believe that Calvinist have done the above scripture. Especially when they started preaching against what God convinced me of that He loved the world. I heard preacher's preach from Pauline Epistles, but it took me a long time for me to read them, mainly because of the above scripture I knew it was for the mature not for an infant as I was. When I over heard a young Christian ask someone where to start reading the Holy Bible the person told them to start in the Pauline Epistles. I thought to myself how dangerous of a place to start some who is just an infant.
I started from the old Testament. I had no problem with it. How God would include non-elect if they have all males circumcised and those by faith who did was able to join in the passover. How God would protect His people from being corrupted by people around them that would never changed destroyed. How He saved the one who gave refuge to the spies from destruction. How He would send His beloved to non-elect that God knew can be saved even if it meant putting His own people in peril like He did with Jonah The prophets He would prepare even from the womb to prepare the way for His Son who would bring salvation to the world to those who trust in His name.
Then reading the Gospels and seeing Jesus rejecting and disowning His own people who disowned Him and having a chosen elect then including non-elect like the women at the well who became a messenger to the Gentiles. Then telling the women that He only came for the lost sheep of Israel, but the women pleaded and said even a dog eats from the master table and Jesus helped her. Then you have the centurion who Jesus said had great faith
Then when reading Paul I believe there is an elect those who are in Christ who is the chosen before the foundation of the world.
You have Israel remnant who are meek and humble who trust in the name of the Lord. Then you have the gentiles who are included with them when the heard the Gospel of their salvation having believed. Then you have the Jews who can be grafted back in if they do not continue in their unbelief.
Jesus say's if you remain in Him He will remain in you and He will not lose any that He has been given. I see it is those who trust in Jesus is the one's the Father gives to Him that He will not lose. I don't fear Paul's writing any more I embrace it. If I didn't approach the Pauline Epistles with fear that I would misunderstand would I be where I am today probably not.
Those who have been convinced by God that God loved the world that He sent His Son, you will not get them to believe any different.
We are all trying to understand the scripture even Calvinist. Those who have trusted in Christ is in no way headed for destruction. Christ would keep them. We all have so much to learn even me.
I see the elect I will not disagree with it, nor will I disagree with the also included when they heard the Gospel of their salvation having believed.
How do you think we should approach the Epistle of Paul and other scripture so that ignorant and unstable people don't distort them , as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.?
