PDF files wont open in IE 7

I had the problem with firefox - just after an update - and someone suggested I reinstall adobe - worked.

Whenever I hit an Adobe file, if I have not first opened the Adobe program on its own, I'll lose my IE 7 altogether. Maybe I will try the reinstallation idea.

uninstall 7 and go back to 6 until they work out the bugs. Of course I would assume you already thought of that.

I know in Firefox you can set PDFs, or any other type of file extension, to open in an external program... Adobe Reader, in this case. Sniff around IE's settings and see if it can do the same thing.
PDFs are a pain in the tuccus. They cause browsers to lock up or crash completely... now matter how up to date your plug-ins are.

I keep telling my administrators that I'd rather convert the files they send me to html files. They take more work, but they open cleaner. I've got one that keeps saying, "NO, I want it in converted to a PDF."

Tom, if your Temporary files are filled too full, IE will not open pdf files. I work for businesses keeping their computers running and that is one of the biggest problems I run into. They call and say their pdf files will not open.
Usually you can download the file and then open it and it will work but the best thing is to "right click" on the Big E icon and click "properties" and then click "General" at the top, next click "delete files". Then delete all the Temporary files. What is wrong is that it has no place to temporary put the file to open it.
Try it, you will like it.

Under File menu choose import/export and export the bookmarks just in case ie6 doesn't pick them up. I'd guess 7 will leave them alone as other programs often do but don' t know. If they don't come in just import the exported file.

I don't think you will lose your favorites but to be on the safe side, do the following.
To save your Favorites:
Run Internet Explorer. Click the "File" menu. Click "Import and Export." Click the "Next" button and click on "Export Favorites." Then click "Next."
You'll see a list of the folders contained within your Favorites. Click once on the "Favorites" folder at the top to save all your Favorites or click one of the subfolders if you want to limit what you save. (My advice: Save all your Favorites. The ones you skip might well be the ones you need.)
Click "Next" and then click "Next" again.

I hadn't noticed that exscentric had already posted for you to export your favorites. It would be a safe thing to do, then remove 7 and I think it will already be back at six if its XP.

IE of any version doesn't natively read PDFs. Installing the reader gives you the option of a browser plug in, which is actually what is happening when it appears IE opens a PDF. If you installed a new IE, you probably have to reinstall Adobe to get the plug in attached to it.

You don't have "adobe elements" do you? If you have "elements," and a Dell computer, it probably won't work at all.
I bought "elements" with my latest dell. It never worked at all...no matter how many times I was put on hold with Bob from Bangladesh. (no offense Brother Bob...I believe that is your real name!)
Dell refused to refund my purchase, and refused after 30 days to support the product without paying $400 for the "premium service" tech help. When I investigated, I found forums with 50 pages of elements problems.
Anyhoo...I just started thinking about it, and when I had elements (as opposed to just the reader) I couldn't even open PDF files. Would that apply to you?
