Blessed are the peacemakers: They shall be recognized as children of God.
    Matthew 5:9

This verse in Matthew’s Gospel is the only time the word peacemakers is ever used in the whole Bible. Peacemakers literally are the “ones who reconcile quarrels.” We can clearly see Jesus is not on the side of the violent but on the side of the nonviolent. Jesus is saying there must be a connection, a clear consistency, a constant unity between means and ends. There is no way to peace other than peacemaking itself.

But our own government gives billions to fund proxy wars…will both presidential candidates promise an end to this unchristian funding? Frankly, that’s my primary concern. Baptists particularly need to reach back into our own history to recall the persecutions & genocide that was inflicted on us. When Calvin told Geneva that he would not suffer to have Servietus re-enter the city least he suffer death, he was as good as his word…punishment and a fiery death awaited him. We as Baptists don’t persecute because we have been the persecuted! So why then do we fund those that do?
