(06-30) 04:00 PDT Washington -- The problem for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi isn't just President Bush. It's the Senate.

Pelosi sounded more apologetic than celebratory Friday when she announced with her Senate counterpart, Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, the Democrats' list of accomplishments six months after they seized control of Capitol Hill and promised "a new direction" in Washington.

"I'm not happy with Congress, either," Pelosi, of San Francisco, conceded.

She pinned the blame on "the obstructionism of the Republicans in the United States Senate."

Repbulicans in charge last time--do nothing congress--ergo the Rs fault.

Dems in charge this time--do nothing congress--ergo Rs fault.

Frankly, I kinda like it when congress is immobilized; the country is much safer then!!

Nobody seized control of anything. The Democrats were ELECTED to the majority.

That's a very good point! The less they do the better off we are. The best they could do would be to undo 99% of what they have done for decades.

One of the most prosperous times in American history had a Democratic President with a Republican Congress. I refer to the Clinton administration times, of course. The '90's were really the decade that saw the average Joe become above average.

When you have a Democratic President trying to push through his own reforms, and a Republican Congress which, during those times, actually governs conservatively, holding the President at bay, this country does much better, financially.

I sure hate to say that though because if there is one thing, and probably the only thing, that I have liked about this administration is the SCOTUS appointments. We would not have gotten this with a Democrat as President.

Aside from that though, we are on the whole better off as a country when neither party controls the whole government. We saw what happens with that in the '60's during the massive government spending and welfare increases and in the '00's with the massive government spending and welfare increases and trillion dollar war.

There are so may variables to include in the prosperity of the 90's. The major one which had the largest influence on the economy was the creation of a new industry. The onslaught of the dotcom businesses drove the market to its highest levels.

Also the prosperity of the 90's has no other time period to measure against so it is in fact impossible to come to certain conclusions as to what is the best scenario as far as dems vs. Repubs in office.

You seemed to have missed it the first time.:tonofbricks:

The blame game wasn't an excepted excuse for Republicans and it won't be for democrats, either. The difference being they'll concentrate on investigating rather than legislating, compounding their ineffectiveness.
