I've been thinking about individuals specifically mentioned in scripture who we know went to heaven (besides Jesus).
I'm curious if there are others I've missed.
Enoch (Genesis 5:24, Hebrews 11:5)
Elijah (2 Kings 2:11). Also, he appears in the Transfiguration (Matthew 17).
Moses. I base this also on the Transfiguration.
The Thief on the Cross (Luke 23). "today you will be will be in heaven"
Paul. This is the one that started me thinking about this. in 2 Timothy 4:8, Paul says "Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day..." If Paul, under power of inspiration, knows that he will be awarded given a crown of righteousness by God, then it seems logical to me that he went to heaven.
Paul's "Man in Christ": Also in 2 Corinthians 12:2-4: "I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows. And I know that this man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows— was caught up to paradise and heard inexpressible things, things that no one is permitted to tell." I have read some commentaries say this is Paul talking about himself in the third person, though others say it is an unnamed man. Even if true, this is in the past tense.
Abraham depending on how you interpret the parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man (Luke 16).
Any I have missed?
