Peter S. Ruckman, Jr. son of Peter S. Ruckman (deceased) of Pensecola, Fl., killed his two sons then took his own life it was discovered this morning.

He was estranged from his wife Heidi, and was in a custody battle over the two boys.

He apparently learned his marriage skills from his father, from whom he was apparently estranged.

Rockford (Illinois) Register Star - Sheriff’s Department Investigates Double Murder-Suicide at Home of Local Professor P.S. Ruckman Jr.

The home in the 4600 block of Chandan Woods Drive is owned by local professor and nationally renowned political expert P.S. Ruckman Jr. and his ex-wife Heidi Ruckman

Ruckman has been quoted in political reports across the country since at least the early 2000s. He was the expert voice in stories for The Chicago Tribune, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Forbes, Christian Science Monitor, USA Today and The Associated Press. He’s been interviewed on National Public Radio and has appeared on the BBC, PBS, MSNBC television networks.

The welfare check was requested by the man’s ex-wife, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Chief Mike Schultz said at the scene. "(She) hadn’t heard from them for a couple days and it was her weekend for custody of the kids”....Heidi Ruckman is a civil defense attorney with Heyl, Royster, Voelker and Allen, which has offices in Chicago and Rockford

Steve Derr has lived directly across from the Ruckman home since November...He was shocked to hear the news Saturday. “I think it’s terrible,” he said. “Those two boys had a long life ahead of them.”

Sad news. Looks like Ruckman, Jr. had made a name for himself in his own field (political science) and quite apart from his father.
