Pew Bibles

I use a pocket computer to take my notes on and it has a Bible program that I use but quite often I use the pew Bible to check somehting.

Other than that mostly just the visitors use them.

One church we attended for awhile had a half dozen bibles sitting on a stand prominently displayed in the foyer and it seemed to work well if you don't want to buy a bunch of them.

 

we are in the process of getting a video board and doing away with pew Bibles. It will be a wonderful way to be a help to those who are not saved (ie the lost usually do not own a Bible or do not think of bringing one to Church). It also is going to be a help to those who "forget." Still, we make a big issue of the importance of bringing and having a Bible. We stress the importance to the point that we even purchase Bibles for those who cannot obtain one.

 

I should add that I personally believe that having and bringing a Bible should be stressed from the pulpit as something of importance. I don't believe that you should come into the Lord's house without the word if you claim to be a disciple of Christ! It's like a chef going to a kitchen without a pot or a fireman going to work without a hose
IMO.

 

We have pew Bibles, but almost no one uses one - except for me sometimes. When I go to church, I take two toddlers, their paraphernalia, and other things that I need there. Plus they both want to hold my hand walking across the street to the church (we live in the parsonage).I leave a Bible there on "my" pew, but when I dont sit there, its really nice to be able to just reach out and get a Bible.

 

Not everybody who goes into a church is a Christian.Not every Christian (especially new ones)has a Bible or the Bible version used by the church (visitors).
Even so it is nice to know that a church cares enough about it's people to make a Bible available.

 

I agree with ya. I like to have MY Bible with me because I can write my notes there, read the study notes, and find a pice of gum in it, too!!

 

We have NIV pew Bibles!
We have NIV power point verses!
I don't favor the NIV, so I bring my New Scofield Study Bible so I can read the verses for myself.

We have plenty of Pew Bibles just in case, but most of our members faithfully bring their own Bibles.

 

It depends. I bring mine. The pew Bibles are all NASV, and the pastor always reads his text from the NASV. So there is something to be said for reading from the same translation.

My pastor preaches through passages of Scripture, so taking a Bible has use. However, I have attended a number of services otherwise where the only Scripture reading was one or two verses at the start of the sermon, never referred to again.
It can become one more subtle legalism. Until I read some of these "bring your Bible" threads on the BB, I had not realized how many other Christians on Sunday morning are apparently looking at me to see if I brought my Bible. I do bring it, but it NEVER occurred to me to look at who else did or didn't.

I do, and I bring it, but on the other hand, the SS quarterly has the passages printed in more than one version, discipleship training often does, and mid-week is prayer meeting primarily, in which we pray, long and specifically.

Our church has pew Bibles. Many in our church bring their own Bibles and take notes, etc., but there are some who rely on pew Bibles either because they forgot their Bible or many who just don't have one. I think they are a big help. I know my wife and I have had to use them a few times and were glad they were there.

Many in our congregation use the pew bible because it I preach from the ESV and not many as of yet have the ESV. But slowly I am winning them over. The church was great and let me choose the translation that I wanted, then went out and bought them. What I great church! They had been using the NIV

 

We don't have pew bibles because almost everybody brings their own. It doesn't seem to matter what the preacher reads from, everyone follows along in whatever version they have. I still use the KJV and find that I can read mine along with the preacher just fine. I believe our new Interim pastor is using the KJV as well, but it doesn't matter to us which version is used.
