I'm looking for some examples of people who were working outside of their field of expertise, and were initially viewed as intruders and trouble-makers, but later seen as pioneers and/or innovators.

    Any help, Please?

Kind of like Columbus. He was ridiculed, then hailed as a hero.

"But the fact that some geniuses were laughed at does not imply that all who are laughed at are geniuses. They laughed at Columbus, they laughed at Fulton, they laughed at the Wright brothers. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown." - Dr. Carl Sagan

Well, I don't know if Michelangelo would tie in much with a Sunday School class. He was a pioneer in areas like art, architecture, biology, engineering, etc., at a time when the Catholic church was burning heretics. I don't know much about his religious background. The religious art he produced was paid for by wealthy families of the time. Or was that Leonardo Da Vinci. Yeah, maybe so. They had a rivalry thing going.

A pioneer in faith, maybe? Maybe Martin Luther, also persecuted by the Catholic church. Or maybe the Apostles, themselves?
