I am thankful to God that patience was rewarded and that the captain is safe and sound. :godisgood:

Sadly, it may be time to begin arming our cargo / merchant ships. And three cheers for the United States Navy and the brave Captain Phillips, who was willing to lay down his life for his crew. I am glad it didn't come to that!

This is wonderful news that I was so pleased to read. There are however still over 200 mariner hostages in Somolia.

I think that MP is right about arming the crews of the ships.

Historically, the reason we don't arm merchant ships is because of the likelihood of a mutiny. It seems to me, if an organization like the U.N. has any purpose at all, it would be to help keep international sea lanes open. But they're probably preparing lawsuits against the SEALs at this very moment.

Perhaps a better solution is a throw back from WWII. Have the travel in packs with military escort. From my understanding, with the volume of shipping it is a minute fraction that is pirated. The cost of securing these loads would raise the cost of shipping exponentially. We may need to raid Somalia and capture the elders of these tribes. Hopefully we don't do another Clinton type debacle.

It is great to be an American. Thank you Mr President. Now end the piracy cartel of Planned Parenthood and save the lives of humanity that are sacrificed for plunder and convenience.

I'm hearing the SEALs had three sniper head shots & took them, with Obama's nod.

I say it again, good for him.

That is what Fox is reporting also. I'm glad he sent snipers instead of the state department. I doubt Hillary is that good of a shot.

Kudos to Obama! He past a good test.

I would be willing to bet Obama told the ship's captain to use his own best judgement.

If the snipers had missed or the hostage been killed , Obama would have hung out one United States Navy Captian to dry.

Always one who can't celebrate with the rest. There had to be a fly in the ointment...

I'm not only grateful for our president's decision, but also for the well-trained Navy Seals who were able to pull off such a precision rescue. :applause:

I would like to think, the last thing that went through those pirates mind, besides the bullets, was why did they mess with a US ship.

Talk about having a bad day...

Kudos to the President for allowing our military to do its job.

Maybe this will make these Somalian cretins think twice before messing with a ship flying our colors.

I think it's time for us to use the "Q-ship" strategy:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Q-ship

Q-ships, also known as Q-boats, Decoy Vessels, Special Service Ships or Mystery Ships, were heavily armed merchant ships with concealed weaponry, designed to lure submarines into making surface attacks. This gave Q-ships the chance to open fire and sink them. The basic ethos of every Q-ship was to be a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Pretty doggone effective, especially in WWI. Give the pirates 2 or 3 attacks on "helpless" boats that annihilate them...and their buddies might just take up another, safer career, such as alligator wrestling, arsenic taste-tester, or befriending OJ Simpson.
