Please pray for my 21 year old daughter

Lauren, my 21 year old, has been sick with what we thought was either a stomach virus or food poisoning but just weren't sure. She had a bout of violent vomiting on Thursday but then was fine all weekend. She was ill again Monday afternoon into Tuesday morning and we were ready to go to the hospital but then she was fine and even went to school on Tuesday. Yesterday afternoon she started not feeling well again and went to bed early - but woke up around 4:30 this morning vomiting again and had a pain in her side. So of to the ER we went, figuring it might be appendix. Man, I wish it were.

She tore a hole in her esophagus from vomiting so profusely - and as a result has some air in her chest cavity. The thoraxic surgeon said that it is benign and will heal on it's own. Additionally, she has an abnormal growth of blood vessels on her liver - but that could just be a birth defect like when kids have a large red spot on their skin (called a hemangioma). Then they found that she has gall stones and they need to find out if these are causing a problem. She had an ultrasound and it shows no infection in her gallbladder and that's good. She'll have another test tomorrow to check the filling and emptying of the gallbladder to make sure it is functioning OK.

However, the biggest worry is that she has an 8 cm tumor on her pancreas. They said they suspect it's a slow growing tumor and not a "Patrick Swayze situation", whatever that might mean. After the test tomorrow, she'll be transferred to a much larger hospital on the Island where they can better deal with the pancreas. They will get a biopsy (probably by scope and no cutting) and see what they are dealing with. Kind of the thought is that if the gallbladder is not a critical issue, they will do both surgery on the pancreas and gallbladder at the same time (since they are in with one, might as well do both).

It's scary to hear a tumor on her pancreas because our first thought is pancreatic cancer which is one of the most fatal cancers out there but we were told that it COULD be a benign tumor that just needs to be removed and she'll be fine. We know God is in control no matter what happens and we trust Him. It's just scary not knowing what we're facing here. I've already contacted her college to let them know that she most likely will be out a few weeks and we know we could get a medical leave of absence if need be, so that's good.

Please pray for wisdom and God's guiding hands for the doctors and a good prognosis for Lauren. She's my oldest - 21 years old and it's so hard to see her so sick. Even with strong anti-nausea meds, she's still vomiting which is not good with the hole in her esophagus. Thank you all!
