Politicians and Racism. Why?

JACKSON, Miss. - A Republican congressional candidate in a majority-white Mississippi district runs ads trying to tie his Democratic rival with Barack Obama's former pastor, seen by some as an anti-white firebrand. Democrats distribute fliers accusing the Republican of wanting a statue to honor the founder of the Ku Klux Klan.

The only black justice on the Wisconsin Supreme Court is defeated after his rival runs an ad with the justice's picture next to that of a black convict. A watchdog group calls it a "disgraceful attack."

In South Carolina, a Republican challenger for the U.S. Senate airs an ad with people stepping over wire fencing and protesters holding "Secure Our Borders" signs. It includes a man and woman saying, "Muchas gracias, Lindsey Graham," the incumbent Republican.

In the first year a major party is poised to choose a black nominee for president, American politicians are still appealing to voters' racial fears, with varying degrees of success.

Why do voters keep falling for such non-issues? Why do they not insist on the politicians debating important issues?

Laziness and apathy mixed with a shot of bitterness a spritzer of pettiness and a wedge of lime.

Ask democrats.

They play the race card every national election, including this one.

Are they trying to avoid the real issues or appeal to a certain block of voters they already own? My money is on the former.

Our electorate is lazy nowadays. They take easily-disproven accusations at face value, without research. All you gotta do is get a catchy slogan that trashes the other guy and say it enough.

Because human beings are instinctively tribal. And because an easy and satisfying way to see the world is to see it constituted by a good "us" and a sinister "them", the latter group being to blame for all "our" problems.

This may or may not be true, I do not know.

What I do know is that race and xenophobia has been widely used on this board to demonize Mr. Obama. We have slide shows with Mr. Obama shown standing next to a camel (I wonder what the point of that could be?) and we have the repeated use of Mr. Obama's middle name of Hussein, a subtle (not really that subtle) and cynical attempt to connect him with Islamic extremism, or to appeal to a general xenophobia.

And we have people using fabricated quotes from Mr. Obama, contrived to portray him as being chummy with the shadowy and sinister forces of Muslim extremism.

The church should be setting a good example on how to do politics, but based on many views expressed in this board, instead we are in bed with the world.

To be factual, Andre, there has been a lot of substance put up, and the racist card was thrown out then, as well. I happen to think his association with radicals is a campaign issue. MP told me I said it because I didn't want a black president, so Carpro is right.

Rest assured the race card WILL be played by the libs at each and every opportunity when any opposition is mouthed against the "messiah"!

And regardless of what the issue is, if it's against "his holiness", it will be blamed on RACISTS.:BangHead::sleeping_2:

Democrat's election strategy has been the same for decades.

Divide to conquer.

Play black against white, young against old, and rich against poor. Over and over again.

Obama will do the same. That's the democrat version of a "uniter".

POOR CURTIS!

His obsession with good ole MP eats at his very soul; even in a thread I have not heretofore posted.

But if you want to accuse me of something, you should back it up with a quote. I may have alluded that you were quacking like a duck, but if you can show where I specifically called you a racist, I will publically apologize. If you cannot, will you do likewise?

Note the reference to "the libs". This is a manifestation of the deeply rooted "us vs them" mentality that I referred to in earlier post.

Once we see the world as an "us vs them" situation, we are in trouble already.

I'm happy to let the readers decide, MP. I'm sure a couple of them remember that line. I'm not going to waste time looking for it. I know you said it. You know you said it. Until you apologize for that, I'm going to assume you are joking about me doing anything I need to be sorry for. Sound good to you ?

Back on thread topic, Andre quips....

If we live according to the Bible, we will be at odds with those who don't. And you cannot be a liberal, and live according to scripture. It's impossible. The liberals lose that argument every time it's tested. The bible destroys every liberal precept. Even the ones they misapply. I say JWP nailed it.

Like this one, about how we need to be environmentally responsible since all of creation will be redeemed?:

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross

There go those darned "pro-environment" liberals again, taking Paul seriously......

Conservatives prefer to use common sense and conservation. Environmentalism (as practiced by liberals) is an affront to God as those who practice it are "worshipping the creation more than the creator".

Conservatives "conserve" nature, liberals worship the earth. Paul never taught earth worship. The robber baron's corporations and non profit foundations did that. Not to mention the United Nations through UNESCO who is indoctrinating our children with earth worship (Earth Charter) in our own schools...thanks in part to William Jefferson Clinton and George Walker Bush.

Bears false witness against me, then in typical fashion can't back it up, and of course, refuses to apologize. You have been exposed as a liar. I suggest you find another object of affection, as your unprovoked invocation of my name to slander me has been laid bare for all to see.

However, let me also add, that since you appear incapable of admitting your false accusation, nor able to apologize, I am not so bullheaded. If you truly believe I ever called you a racist, (which I did not), I am sorry you got that impression. It is not, nor has it ever been, my intention for you to be caled such. That is something only you, God, and those who really know you can tell.
