Do you have a favorite book on Baptist polity? Any recommendations?

Being a Regular Baptist of the Northern persuasion, I find
Notes on the Principles and Practices of Baptist Churchs by Francis Wayland worthwhile. I am reading a 1989 reprint of the 1859 original.

Here's most of what I have that is along that line:

A Baptist Church Manual; J. Newton Brown; Judson Press; first printing, 1853.
Baptist Church Manual; J. M. Pendleton; Broadman; first printing, 1867.
Boyd's National Baptist Pastor's Guide & Parliamentary Rules; R. H. Boyd; National Baptist Publishing Board, 1900.
Cobb's Baptist Church Manual; J. E. Cobb; Baptist Publishing House; 1954.
    Glover's Baptist Church Manual; Conrad N. Glover & I. K. Cross; Bogard Press; 1983.
Principles & Practices for Baptist Churches; Edward T. Hiscox; Kregel, 1980, but originally published as The New Directory for Baptist Churches in 1894.
The Baptist Way-Book; Ben M. Bogard; Bogard Press, 1945.

My two favorites I guess would be the books by Hiscox and Pendleton, and I definitely prefer the original Pendleton manual to the current one with "updates" made by Broadman.

Also go with the OLD "New Directory for Baptist Churches" by Edward Hiscox.

This is not to be confused with the "Hiscox Guide for Baptist Church" that was put out by Judson Press (Northern Baptist/American Baptist) and is a gelded version of the classic. It is not worth the paper it's printed on.

And always use Robert's Rule of Order (latest edition) for running parliamentary procedure in business meetings.

JLS, I should have explained that the Kregel reprint is the original Edward Hiscox book, but with a different title (I'm not sure why). I agree with Dr. Bob's assessment of the Judson Press' travesty called "Hiscox Guide for Baptist Church."

Just an interesting thought, Wayland's book and Hiscox's book represent a two generation continum of 19th Century Regular Northern Baptist thought.
