"Old" depends on whether you've had 50 years of experience at being a Christian or whether you've had one year experience 50 times.

Some wise person said that we ought to learn something new each day.

If that is true in the secular world - how much truer it should be in the Christian world!

Our 'Senior Saints' have much to offer. They have been there, seen that, done that and have many T-shirts!

How wise it would be for us to seek counsel from these Godly people so we can avoid many of the pitfalls they experienced.

It is not the 'Old Sheep' that we have to fear; but rather the 'Young Goats'.

I have had a real problem of late replying to threads and not pushing the "Add Reply" button...

Anyways...My mum is an old sheep, 60+ years. My dad is a younger sheep..35+ years [IMG]

They have had some terrible treatment in Churches over the years, I think because the average young sheep (or wolves in sheep clothing) are terrified of them. I count having them as parents the greatest privilege God has given me. I pray by the Grace of God I will be the example these two saints are.

Many a time I have been blessed with the wisdom of "old sheep". They can be a real treasure here on earth. They love to talk about Jesus, they have a wealth of knowledge of the Bible, they love and value prayer, and most importantly in a lot of ways, they are happy to give you there time and they know How To Listen. I praise the Lord for Old Sheep. [IMG]

Old sheep are much like young sheep, they both grow a fleece. If the old sheep neglects its feed, it loses its worth. It must drink equal amounts of water. The one thing about the older sheep; they don't startle as quickly as the younger ones do. They know the shepherd.

I suppose there are similar qualities in the Christian life. We must feed daily on the word; drink from the fountain of grace; stay by the Shepherd's side and keep in touch.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Hi guys, About 10 years ago, when I first began teaching Sunday school, I was appalled at the number of older saints in the congregation who actually knew so little about the Bible. Many of them couldn't locate books of the Bible, often confusing the Old Testament with the New Testament. Many had been attending church regularly since childhood! I think that instead of feeding on the Word (as Bro. Jim was saying), some of these (a couple of deacons, no less)sheep gorged themselves on tradition. That little country church was steeped in it! I have prayed since that that congregation was the exception, instead of the rule. Anyway, old sheep who "walk in the Spirit" (Gal. 5:25) are extremely valuable to my own Spirit walk! In Christ, WT

Maybe the fault lay with the pastor. Been to a lot of churches where the people don't need a Bible - just preaching on "hot-button" issues (slacks, tracks [music] or blacks) or a regurgitated John 3:16 over and over and over.

Some sheep are STARVING to death and not knowing it. Hence, as they age, they latch onto form and function rather than a sure foundation of the Word.

So I look for culpability at the feet of the shepherd, not in the sheep.

A shepherd can only lead the sheep to food and water, he cannot force feed them. If all they get is what he gives on Sunday then that is not enough no matter how good for them to grow strong.

Indeed, if most Baptists ate grocercies like they feed on the Word we would have far more anorexic Baptists than fat ones.
