I couldnt' vote. I'm not sure what you mean by a "literal" Hell and a "figurative" one.

If "literal" means it's a physical place, then no, it's figurative, but if it refers to a real state of being after death, then it's literal.

Literal, meaning a real physical place.

Then I'd have to say figurative, since I believe it's a real place, but not a physical place.

Real people, real torment, real place.
My house is real, my house is physical, my house is a real physical place.
Angels are real, angels aren't physical but they are none the less real.
Hell is real but, is it physical, spiritual, or something entirely different that God created of the same sort of substance as real spiritual beings so that they might experience this torment designed especially for them?
Jesus is real but his glorified body is significantly different from what I call my physical body. Interesting, no deep thought here, just thinking (typing) out loud.

Hell is real for the soul,(Sheol) the body goes to the grave, which is referred to as hell (also called Hades), that body eternal that will suffer, being cast, bound hand and foot in eternal torment into the Lake of Fire (Gehenna). Death and Hell will give up their dead (those mentioned above ) and be cast into the Lake of Fire along with the beast, the devil and the false prophet at the Great White Throne .

Revelation 19:20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
Revelation 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Is your name written in the Lamb's Book of Life?

Good poll. We need to continue to recognize the reality of hell and the need to be faithful to God is the proclamation of the Gospel.

Just wondering who said "I'm not a Baptist . . " when this is a Baptist Only section where those who are "not Baptist" are not allowed.

    Hmmmm.

The Salvation Army used to preach about Hell alot in the open air meetings in the public forum. Weather or not it is politically correct to do so should not stop us from doing likewise. It is an auwful thing to think that somebody could actually go there, even more auwful to think of those you could have said something to about it, to keeo them from going there.
