Poor states give away more money than rich states

Yep. I'm Ed from Oklahoma: the buckle on the Bible Belt.
A majority of the adults in Oklahoma are SOUTHERN BAPTIST.
We are the second most generour welfare state

Could you explain why the teen pregnancy rate and abortion rate is lowest in the northern states?

That article would not agree with the prosperity gospel TV preachers in the south. However, I guess you could say they are blessed with money from the poor. Years ago one of them was coming to a town where I lived on the coast of CA and he was exposed and did not make a showing. The Christians ran him out of town.

 

Statements like yours are very dangerous. I am regularly reminded of who helped push throught Hiltler's agenda--the Christians. Too many times the religious are gullible. They do not read their Bible and are easily misled. Just look at how many TV preachers are in those same states. Why do the Christians not run those idiots out of town?

I do not support any particular party. There are liars and good people on both sides. Just as every church has liars and good people.

 

You can't really go by the states either. Illinois is listed as the 2nd least giving state.

That may be true for Chicago, but midstate and downstate, we are very giving and I would rank our county as #1 in being generous!

 

Good ol' Arkansas is number 2! Praise the LORD!

 

I will disagree with certain points made.

The NE and West Coast states are dominated by persons of NO religious faith, not RCC. For all of RCC's errant beliefs they are consistent on being pro-life and anti-homosexual marriage, something not supported by the legislatures and Congressional delegations of those states.

Also, if RCC dominated states are so cheap, how did Louisiana (which is the most Catholic-dominated state in the South) end up at #4? According to the "cheapstate" premise they should be near the bottom of the list.

 

The concept of geography and generosity is only true in the most general of terms. Lets look at another aspect of giving and kindess. Lets talk about church crowds in general and Baptists in particular and how they act at restaurants after church on Sunday.

Why is it that a group of waitresses at a restaruant, any restaurant, fight over who has to work the Sunday shift because the "church crowd" is the rudest, most arrogant, and cheapest tipper of any group they serve? Shouldnt Christians be the most generous, kindest, and most loving there is? What a witness. This exists wherever one goes. Why is this? Did something torque everyone off at worship time?

 

Catholics are very charitable. That isn't their problem.

As for the article, it demonstrates the cultural divide between judeo-christian philosophies and secular humanism. Those more influenced by the prior see it as a spiritual as well as physical problem will give their own time and money more often than those influenced by the second. Those influenced by the second see it as a physical problem and believe that a "scientific" invention (ie social welfare) will solve the problem... without them having to get their own hands dirty.

 

I am from Mississippi. I have lived here all my life. Mississippi is usually at the top or bottom of most lists:wavey: Mississippi is rated the poorest state, yet the most generous.

The Southern Baptist have the highest % of members than any other denomination. I wish I could say that in Mississippi, the % of the people who are truly Christian is higher than that of the % who are church members. What I am saying is that it is a part of the culture to "go to church." Giving (sharing what we have) is just what we do, like sending our kids to school, voting, owning a car, getting married, etc. Just because it it poor doesn't mean it is bad.
