Portable Bible software

    Anyone know if there is a decent portable Bible software for use on a memory stick?

    Outstanding question.

    Have you tried installing to your memory stick? I realize the risk is that there are .dll files that are loaded into the Windows directories, but you never know until you try.

    As an alternative option, I have a KJV in PDF format, plus a portable PDF reader. You can do searches using the "Find" function in the PDF reader, but you don't have the full-fledged study functions you get with bible software.

    I'm going to try installing eSword and Online Bible onto a memory stick. I'll let you know how it turns out.

    I read some stuff about why e-sword wont work, but didn't understand it ;) - I did install the foxit PDF reader on my stick.

    If you get even the basic e-sword to work let me know.

    I am a BIG fan of e-sword.

    I think there is a version of esword that will work. It is written in Java and as long as you have Java Virtual Machine installed, it should work.

    I think it is called Bible desktop.

    Well, that was fun (in a techno-geek sort of way).

    E-Sword will work, if each computer you plug your flash drive into has the same identifier for the removeable drive. For example, the computer I used to install e-Sword on the flash drive identified the flash drive as "E:"; it worked fine from the flash drive on that computer. However, the other computer I tested the install on identified the flash drive as "J:", and e-Sword wouldn't run (mostly likely because e-sword system files were looking for things on the e: drive).

    Online Bible worked fine, no problems (http://www.onlinebible.net/downloads.html).

    As did J-Sword/Bible Desktop (http://www.crosswire.org/bibledesktop/download.html).

    NetBible also worked, but I'm a KJV-preferred kind of guy, so I won't be using it myself.
