ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (AP) -- Two police officers sued Burger King Corp., claiming they were served hamburgers that had been sprinkled with marijuana.
The lawsuit says Mark Landavazo and Henry Gabaldon, officers for the Isleta Pueblo tribal police, were in uniform and riding in a marked patrol car when they bought meals at the drive-through lane October 8 of a Burger King restaurant in Los Lunas, New Mexico.
The officers ate about half of their burgers before discovering marijuana on the meat, the lawsuit said. They used a field test kit to confirm the substance was pot, then went to a hospital for medical evaluations.
"It gives a whole new meaning to the word 'Whopper,"' the officers' attorney, Sam Bregman, said Monday.
"The idea that these hoodlums would put marijuana into a hamburger and therefore attempt to impair law enforcement officers trying to do their jobs is outrageous."
Three Burger King employees were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and aggravated battery on an officer, a felony. They later were indicted.
The lawsuit, filed Friday in Bernalillo County, alleges personal injury, negligence, battery and violation of fair practices. It seeks unspecified damages along with legal costs.
Officials at Miami-based Burger King declined to comment, citing a company policy against discussing pending litigation.

Wow, that sure sucks. Makes you wonder what other drug one might put in your food?

Marijuana in a burger is pretty stupid - did they think it would not be noticed? I dunno, maybe they were stoned and thought it would be funny...

But I've wondered how often it could've happened that someone's coffee has been spiked with illegal substances just to make that person flunk a drug test....

The sad part is that these officers would file a law suit against an innocent company, when a felony caused the damage.

    Cheers,

Similar situation occurred in the DFW metroplex (sorry, can't remember which city right now.) Two seniors thought it would be hilarious to bake MJ into muffins -- took them to a school's administrative office. Wasn't so funny when two people ended up in the hospital and they were arrested for aggravated assault and personal injury. Cameras had a good shot of them delivering the treats.

Majority of Letters to the Editor and talk-show call-ins agreed: Boys will be boys. No need to ruin their lives with a conviction, they'll lose their college scholarships.

Wasn't a very good joke. This reminded me that I need to find out the status on that case -- Star Telegram had two items in archives:

2 men surrender in tainted-muffin case DALLAS — Two North Texas 18-year-olds surrendered to authorities Thursday in connection with the delivery of tainted muffins to a school May 16. Joseph Robert Tellini, a Lake Highlands High School senior, and Ian McConnell Walker, a Bishop Lynch High School student, were taken into custody about 8 a.m. at the Dallas County Sheriff's Department. Five cases of assault on a public servant have been filed against each of the men,

Teens indicted in tainted-muffin case DALLAS — Two teenagers were indicted by a grand jury Wednesday on felony charges in connection with the delivery of marijuana-laced muffins to the teacher's lounge at a Dallas high school last month. Ian McConnell Walker and Joseph Robert Tellini, both 18, each face five counts of assault on a public servant, a third-degree felony that carries a sentence of up to 10 years. Officials said 18 school employees at Lake Highlands High

Well, at least the good news is that marijuana has no trans fatty acids.

It happened in The Colony, just north of Dallas. Some drug-dimmed fool of a high school student thought it would be funny.

The officer noticed the taste, had it analyzed, and he's on a DPC scholarship to the school of hard knocks.

    Don't take this the wrong way . . .

But, better they go to jail for pot than for spiking with LSD, PCP, or one of the other drugs that could kill in low dosages.

What were they thinking - absolutely nothing at all.
